I just started learning Swedish and planning on doing my doctoral program in Sweden. Question- Do social workers in Sweden do therapy? In the US I am a therapist with my master. I am planning to apply to University for my doctoral program. If I cannot do therapy as a social worker- I will do psychology so that I can do my job. My husband is a nurse and his grandparents are from there. I am so excited!

Hi! I read your comment and found it pretty similar to my situation! I would love to hear more about your efforts in trying to go to school in Sweden if you’re comfortable with that. I also would like to continue my education in Sweden as well but I have no idea where to start. If you have any tips or advice on how to best do this I would love to talk. Thanks :)

Thank you so much for all of the information! I have been researching and reading for a while because my family and I want to move to Sweden. You mention getting a job to get a Personnummer but both my girlfriend and me own our own businesses here in America and I have owned mine for 12 years. How does it work if you own your own business and want to move to Sweden? Can you still get a Personnummer and possibly a mortgage?

Thank You for your video! Of all the countries in the world, Sweden lived up to the principles of freedom in this pandemic and we would like to live in a free country like that. We are retired. Could we retire to Sweden? Is there a certain status or citizenship that would allow us to retire there? What about buying a small house in the metropolitan area? Do you have condos that one could buy?

Hi Damian (I´m from Chile so we could exchange messages in Spanish later). I´ve been planning my move to Sweden for several months, I am a teacher of English, have a Master in Linguistics, also know Portuguese and have been learning Swedish for months, my question is: How true is it that for a skilled English speaking immigrant would be very easy to find a job there?? All the contacts I know who live in Sweden have told me that..."Come as a tourist, go to interviews, make contacts and you will have real chances to get a sponsor who may hire you and process your work permit because Swedes appreciate Skilled immigrants very much...." Is that so???? Sweden lacks programs for non-EEA skilled migrants so in the end it is almost a MUST to enter the country as a tourist and arrange for a job interview there...What can you tell me about this???
@Toledo394

Yeah, good question. I am from Brazil and have been teaching portuguese to foreigners for the past 20 years or so. I also speak English, Spanish, and Japanese. Learning 'svenska' now. What are my chances moving to Sweden? Great channel by the way, Damian!

First you need to research if there are jobs that match your skills. Go to arbetsförmedlingen.se and look for jobs. Make some research in migrationsverket.se, Lear Swedish and save money.

@@Damiannn thanks, but do you know of any non-EEA citizen who has found a job through these platforms??? I haven´t heard or read about anyone. Another good point is that it is said that Sweden needs 77,000 foreign teachers and many people for the nursing area but until now there´s no recruitment program for this and the beraucracy to be certified as a teacher is disappointing...so in the end as I said before it is easier to find a job as a waiter or cleaner than finding a job on your speciality...The problem for non-EEA people is that the employer must be willing to start your recruitment at Migrationsverket and sometimes the waiting time for the work permit can be forever...

You should email your cv and personal letter to diferent companies. If they really need so many professionals, they can make you a contract. There are a lot of people from South America, Asia, UK,.... working in Sweden.

Me and my wife have significant disabilities and we have given thought to moving to Sweden on a permanent level due to the fact that the US has a lot of problems right now and they about the problem of getting a job for either one of us is almost at zero because I am legally blind with limited use of my site because I have low vision and my wife she is in a power wheelchair with a limited use of her hands and I pretty much have to do everything for her and right now I also have multiple mental health disorders and would any of that be a hoot would any of that be a problem or hindrance to moving there I love the country I love the language and I would give anything anything to move there

Immigrants, especially from the Middle East and other non-western cultures ........ understand one thing... You are expected to adapt and assimilate to OUR culture and way of life. We don't adapt to you, you adapt to us. Leftist media in Sweden will have you believe that you are welcome to live just as you did in your former country, and hold the same values and practices. This is not true. People will shun you, and you will never feel like you're part of society. Learn our language QUICKLY, and if possible drop the accent. Do NOT come here with an entitled attitude. You will get NO sympathies. Do all these things, or you will be treated as a "blatte", a derogatory slur that meaning "immigrant outsider". These are unfriendly words I know, but better to tell it like it is rather than perpetuate the lie that Swedes are an altruistic people full of hospitality, and who just give, give, give, give, and never ask for anything in return. We have impoverished elderly, we have homeless people, we have a housing crisis where people have to wait YEARS for a place to live - and part of these problems are because of you immigrants and irresponsible government that accepted too many of you, only to look good in the public eye and further their own careers.
