A couple of quick tips for most Lexus/Toyotas 1. If your oil filter has a cap for the small o-ring DO NOT REMOVE IT. The cap is there as Toyotas way to make oil changes "clean." The problem is that you run the risk of the o-ring getting pinched and potentially it breaking. Its easier to loosen the filter by a few threads until there is a steady flow of oil. 2. When you put on the new o-ring(big one) it's good to put a little bit of oil around it so that it reduces the risk of it breaking when putting the filter back on. This especially important with models with metal oil filter housings as they are the most at risk. 3. To save yourself some headache at the next oil change put some oil on the drain plug gasket so they don't stick to the oil pan/drain plug. Also since its mentioned in the video a good rule of thumb if you're using Toyota drain plug gaskets stop tightening the drain plug when the gasket starts mushrooming. 4. All Lexus/Toyota/Scion maintenance reset lights are either; key on/engine off holding odometer or; key on/engine off holding trip A. Most modern models use the dash menu so they should be obvious. ***the ONLY model that doesn't always follow this rule is the Prius lineup. They are different each generation.*** Hope this helps makes everyone's oil changes easier.

I had that VSC light on for years and tried everything I could to fix it with no success. One day I decided "what the heck", just brought into Lexus service of Westminster. They charge me about $225 for diagnosis and "repair". (Quoted for $4xx.xx). Story short, I received a check for the full amount of the repair from that dealer saying the repair was covered by Lexus. I'm dealing with this now, 06 is350 with 80k.. code said it was solenoid.. I had the CEL for 3-4 months now, transmission progressively showed symptoms of bad shifting then a couple days ago, waaay worse. Struggles going into gear from as stop and struggles getting out of 1-2nd. If I'm on a down hill it shifts easy and I can cruise in manual mode from there. But I don't want to drive anymore to prevent more damage. What do y'all recommend?? Tow to dealership/trans shop or attempt to change solenoids?

Marty left the small seal down on the floor, so he didn't replace it...

Yeah, not all lexus and toyota have that seal, if your oil filter cap has a drain plug then you have use it. I have a Toyota Crown Athlete, it doesn't have either.

@@MartyMotoring You can switch from one type of oil to another at any point time in without any damages, whatsoever, to your engine. Hearing you say "don't switch between oil types" is like hearing someone say "You shouldn't change your transmission fluid, especially if your vehicle is old and you've never done it before"

@@heavyhitter886 it’s a known fact that you shouldn’t be tossing conventional and full synthetic in there back to back with different weights. You want to keep the same oil weight and type. Once you go synthetic, running conventional can causes issues on an engine that burns oil. Can you do it? Yes. Should you? Probably not... Also, that’s not a great analogy since I drained and filled my trans fluid at 169,000 miles with good results... Both are possible but only one is a good idea.

@@MartyMotoring You clearly didn't get my analogy reagrding ATF. You should go back and read it again. Anyway, in regards to the oil weight, I never said it's okay to switch oil weights. You should always go with whatever the manufacturer calls for. It's that simple. Now, as far as switching from synthetic to conventional, you're flat out wrong. You can switch back and forth between the two without any issues, at all. In fact, you can even mix the two. What do you think synthetic blend is? I don't know where you're getting your "known facts" from, but you should definitely find another source man...
