Time lapse painting a lorikeet from start to finish. I am using thin glazes to capture the unique blue colour of the head. I am alternating between layers of detail and thin glazes of phthalo blue and dioxazine purple to add pure colour. I some areas I use a bit of burn sienna to tone down the blue a bit. In areas where I want to add dark shadow I mix burn umber with the phthalo blue. It is important that the previous layer of paint is completely dry before a glaze is added. It is also important that the glaze contains no white at all. Glazes make it possible to add colours to a painting that is very difficult to mix in any other way.
