That's what you want, a painter who is very detailed about his work. Not all painters are good painters. My brother hired a painter and he painted but didn't preparer the wall, it looked horrible and he painted over all the defects that were still visible. That is why I do my own painting.

I don't need 10 minutes on the history of paint brush hairs or how caulk was invented or the nuances of the color 'white'. Just show me how to get the job done. I would of never thought of doing this. So is it extremely important that you remove the tape while paint and caulk are wet?

Yeah, otherwise you'll get what's called bridging, but you have a little time. It takes longer than one might think to completely dry.

On the window trim, you mentioned it will probably need two coats, but you say pull the tape when the paint and caulking are still wet. So does that mean you have to mask it again for a second coat? Thx
@MMPRECISIONPAINTING

I normally put a second coat on it before the paint has fully cured, about 15 - 20 minutes. Then pull the tape right after.

I know you said remove it while everything is wet, but what about if you need multiple coats? Do you just remove the tape when the first coat is wet and then re-tape when you're ready for your second coat??
@MMPRECISIONPAINTING
2 жыл бұрын
As long as the paint isn't too dry you can leave it while you put another coat on. I usually put a second coat on about 30 to 40 minutes after the first, then pull it. Just pull it as soon as you can. The temp and humidity are a factor, so just watch out for how fast or slow it's drying and make a decision on when to apply the second coat.
@makistt07

But what if the painting needs 2 or 3 coats ? We are supposed to remove when its still wet, how will we do it if needs many coats? Also is itcok to use the classic paperctape?
@jenns.5791

you have enough time to do a few coats. as long as the last coat is wet when you remove the tape you should be fine. never use paper tape. always use painter's tape.

Get some green frog tape and make your lines press firmly and then get a wet sponge not soaking wet just wet and go over the frog tape this will allow the sticky stuff to activate then paint away a lot of people think to just paint over the tape but it needs to get moisture so that the edges swell up and stops any paint from coming through I tried doing the caulk method just wasn’t my cup of tea because you can’t let the caulk get dry if you do it will take the paint with it and usually you can see the caulk after paint has fully dried it’s like a sheen

So what's the point of the caulk? The tape is what gives you the straight line w/o caulk. Plus, you rub the caulk along the tape and thus on the wall surface too. So now you're painting on caulk. Just don't get it- the caulking.
@MMPRECISIONPAINTING
2 жыл бұрын
With tape alone it will still get some bleed through, especially on rough surfaces. The clear caulk fills the void and seals the tape line.
