This video is extremely helpful. Couple of things - in order for me to quit smoking then I'd have to start smoking. Not. Been off cigs for 50+yrs. I'm eating more good saturated fats and will try the intermittant fasting. This sort of flies in the face, however, of those saying a person should eat smaller amounts every 2-3 hours.

Hi Kate, I've recently discovered your channel and have a question about intermittent fasting. In other videos you've shown that eating a carnivore diet your insulin is pretty much a flat line with no increases. If eating carnivore doesn't affect insulin, why bother with intermittent fasting?
@HealthCoachKait
3 жыл бұрын
I think you are confusing blood glucose (sugar) and insulin. You are not able to measure insulin at home. Some foods raise insulin without any rise to blood sugar. But you are right in a sense! Keto and carnivore diets mimic some of the benefits of fasting, especially when it comes to insulin.

I went to the ER in late December because I thought I was having a mini heart attack. I was having tightness and discomfort in my chest for a few weeks prior and even after I was discharged. EKGs, chest Xrays, and bloodwork showed everything was normal (blood glucose was slightly elevated), so I was diagnosed with a panic/anxiety attack... I noticed once I lowered my carbs drastically and started eating more fatty foods the tightness and pain in my chest started to go away. I think we need really need to change the rhetoric around what is considered a healthy diet. Fat is not the enemy, cholesterol is not the enemy. It's excessive sugar/carbs, high insulin, and lack of exercise.

Your videos are really going next level. I had taken a break from the keto/carnivore video world for a few months and am now catching up. You are doing some really good work. I'm currently fighting with my doctors over this particular issue. Sad thing is my ratio is 1.8, down from 2.8 just two years ago, and even higher as you go farther out. Even though I shed 30 pounds lost 4 inches off of my waste, ditched the belly, and dropped my blood pressure to excellent levels they still want me on statins. From my research, a very important ratio is Triglycerides / HDL. You want Triglycerides down and HDL up. Ratio should be 2 or lower. Great video btw. The labeling is definitely simplistic. We need cholesterol. Oh, ok, you just said what i was saying. So it should be 1.9 or lower. I want my HDL to go up because it is always a little low. I did get my triglycerides down a lot because i started eating a cleaner diet (less processed foods) and do move around more than in past. Takes some time to change diet and to become more active. You have to plan meals and also make room for exercise.

Very useful video. I just cut all kind of sugars, biscuits, rice and wheat. Intermittent fasting by eating dinner at 20 hrs , skipping breakfast fast or light fruit breakfast. Lunch at 14 hrs. I don't think any educated person disputes that. We can also say that water is essential for health and even for life itself but it's possible to have too much water. Fat is also essential for life and health but there's danger in having too much fat. The issue is not whether cholesterol is essential or not but rather the type and the amount of it that matter.

I've seen quite a lot about taking a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil every day can help raise HDL, and somewhat quickly. I was actually surprised my results weren't horrible as I do eat very poorly. So I've started doing a tablespoon of olive oil and taking krill oil every day. Hopefully this is a good step to increasing my HDL and I will slowly start to remove the junk food.

Question for you on the correlation between smoking and low HDL … is it, by chance, specifically the nicotine that is the cause? My husband and I both went low carb, IF 16:8, in spring of 2020. Both of us are now a healthy weight and feel great. My HDL levels are fantastic, but he has been unable to get his levels up at all--he also happens to chew tons of nicotine gum, and has done so for many, many years. Could that be the culprit?

So my ratio is 3.3....Dr has given me 3 months to improve things. Its daunting and im a bit worried but she doesn't want me having any dairy fat or fried foods. So far with IF I'm doing ok. I want to live longer but all of these numbers and info is a bit confusing.

All good info, I was at the doorstep of T2 with high BS and A1C at 6.4. I said no ,, since then 7mo running,, have lost 35 pounds but the BS was still well above 100 so stubborn me, dropped the beer and almost immediately the readings dropped to the 90s and even recently had an 86 fasting BS. So will see my Dr again soon and am anticipating all blood work to be better and a dumbfounded DR Face. So for me alcohol was a definite barrier for my fasting BS.

Yes, my HDL was 38.6 those 7mo ago, so the next blood work results should be interesting.

wow---what a wonderful explanation of cholesterol ---best on you tube---the only other thing I would like you to cover would be if fasting cholesterol is that much different when determining your health--are doctors wanting a non fasting test to make you even more healthy?
