I was frustrated with a broken cotter pin on a lower ball joint (still on vehicle) and your video gave me a simple easy solution to removing it. Thanks for sharing Klowny. (7 years later) :)

I snipped the cotter pin, and then used a 25" breaker bar after soaking the castle nut in some liquid wrench. Worked like a charm

Love the rust belt. Cotter pin won't budge and isn't corroded enough to shear. Pissed. Just ordered a MOOG outer tie rod to replace it. Gonna cut off the castle nut.

@@klowny1969 Me too upstate. Just had to plasma cut off the stud on a perfectly good ball joint because the installed the cotter pin front to back......no way to get a punch in from the back to knock out the bits.

I had to do the same thing but I can't find/see where the remains of it as re but there are a few flat spots that look like it may be it and need to remove it as it is in the output shaft on a diff so may put the nut back on to try and help me push/find where it is without damaging the threads

at home? no impact gun? won't punch out? tight space ball joint with the top inaccessible? threads stripped after this method not working? Get out the hack saw and spend an hour sawing through the to of each ball joint bolt.

@paulinotou

At the end of the video he uses the pry bar to put pressure on the stud so it doesn't move. Make sure the stud is clean so the nut goes in easier. I used to have this problem when changing ball joints.

I know not on the ball joint. The tip of the stud where the pin is. The castle nut and knuckle should suck up heat before it gets too close to the boot and ball joint.
