I installed a new Alternator and Tensioner Pulley on my 1998 Chevy Silverado. This process is the same on GMC models as well. Fairly simple process. The only tools you will need for this DIY project are a ratchet set and a pry bar. I purchased the Alternator at AutoZone versus other stores because they gave me a life time warranty on it. If it ever fails again, I can take it out and they will give me a new one for the life of the truck.
