You respond my kindly telling them that after careful consideration of their rejection letter and being rejected by several different corporations you’ve decided to reject their rejection letter and hope to see them in the office soon :)

I love this video. Starla described the way things "should" go. I rarely get notice of rejection, and always send a thank you email when I do. I've never received a follow up after that though. I'll keep sending gracious emails, regardless.

Yes, I love this attitude! You’ll have better opportunities around the corner. You just have to keep improving and persevering. Rejection is not failure. It’s redirection. And it’s part of the path to success!

This is great advice to keep in mind! A rejection may seem like a set-back, but it can be used as a set up for another opportunity. In spite of receiving an offer or not, I'll be sure to employ warm thank you emails and letters throughout my job search process.

Hi! Your sigh at the beginning made me want to cry: that was exactly how I was when I saw the rejection email tonight. Thank you for your empathy and definitely thank you for the advice to send a thank you note to the person who brought me the bad news. After all, he went out of his way to inform me so I could get going with my own plans.

So you think that job applicants who get rejected will stay jobless and available for anytime you have an open position and feel like hiring? This is a very eccentric way of thinking and I cringe so hard when companies write in their copy-and-paste generic email that they'll keep your resume in their database for when they have an opening and feel like hiring you. The world doesn't revolve around the company or the hiring manager. People will eventually and very quickly succeed and their livelihood does not depend on your own timeline. Bad advice to give people, no one has the time to respond to every copy and paste rejection email on a company that didn't see their value, they should be putting that time and energy applying to more jobs instead.

Unfortunately, not everyone “quickly succeeds” in their job searches. I have had students sign up for my University of Washington career-strategy class after receiving 40+ rejections. I have even spoken to applicants who applied and interviewed for jobs for more than two years - and finally got their dream job offers after consistently and frequently using the strategy from this video (one of these employees makes than $100,000; another makes more than $220,000 now - both are at highly competitive tech companies that can receive hundreds of applications for a single opening). This isn’t bad advice. It works. It’s very advantageous to continue the conversation with the hiring manager; as I mentioned in the video, if they see potential in you, the hiring manager will often share feedback about how to improve your application. Otherwise, if you don’t try to continue the conversation (and miss out on opportunities to get additional feedback), the effort you put into the next job applications - using the same mistakes that led to your previous rejections - won’t be a very good use of time. Before discounting this advice, try it. If hiring managers are willing to respond, you would be surprised at how helpful their feedback can be. Good luck in your job search.

Thank you so much for posting this rejection video, I needed it. Today I received the email about been rejected for a job and a company I reallly like and in another state, so difficult to to land a job in another state. I had the interview with the AVP manager on Sept 8, and waited, sent some follow up emails... VP manager responded in linkedin to one of my follow up. Not sure why took so long to decide on the candidate, anyway, I sent today to all 3 people I dealt with in the interview process a Thank you email and to each and individual email. I appreciate they took the time to interview me and get to know me. It must be hard to just try to pick a candidate from the papers and talking one time. I hope they will consider me for other positions at the company and reach back to me.

Hi @StarlaSampaco Do you have any advice for a job that I have applied to 3x over the past 3 years and immediately get a rejection letter within a week of applying saying they are moved forward with another candidate? From what I can see, other people within the same company that hold that same role I applied for, have similar qualifications to me. Why am I not even getting past the initial rejection?
