Awesome video guys! The video and explanation is exactly what I was seeing during my cable replacement project! Much appreciated.

gday mate i have just had a 40hp la fitted to my resto ,your lucky in the states they let you buy and fit yourself here it has to be fitted by a authorised yamaha dealer at a cost between 500 and 700 dollars , dont want to be picky but GREASE on your connections mate , can never have to much grease (except on the top of your drive shaft) mine runs the standard 703 and thats a knock off but does the job , i have just found out how to wire up the tacho which wires are what . i bought a kus with an hour metre thankfully on the yamaha forums a guy had just done his so passed on the knowledge at least you can get a manual there here is a big NO they wont sell you one but if you know the right people things can happen good video .

Thanks Crispernator! Yes, The only reason I did not grease the cables was that the Sierra cables are supposed to be prelubricated, however. I may go back and add some heavy BRP grease, I'm sure it wouldnt hurt! I was going to do the tach and tilt wiring on this video but just flat out ran out of time so will do that in a short video soon. I actually showed which wires to use for the tach on my 13 resto video which was a 703 controller. I'm pretty sure they are the same on a 704. BTW, I'm surprised you can't order yamaha parts online there!

@@ExtremeDIYGuy I cannot say with any credibility but i would think the trim wiring would be just plug and play ,if i had used a yamaha tacho (450 dollers ) instead of my 100 dollar kus they have a loom for it and it is just match the wires did they supply the loom for the tilt with the engine ?

The trim wire does have a plug and play option, they have a cable/Loom ($$$) to run that to your helm. Probably only really needed if you have Yamaha gauges. The wire for the trim (pink) is tied to a connector that I, unfortunately, can't identify, so will cut and splice that. I checked and the tach wire (green ) is the same coming off the 704 controller as the 703. The good news is that it uses a standard bullet connector. I'll have those two connected and tested soon!

What Gauge Wire is the red and black main power? I'm doing my twin 115s and having hard time figuring out what to buy.

I used 2 Gauge because of the distance, I probably could have gone with 3 or possibly 4 guage but I always go over a bit, especially with wiring.

@@ExtremeDIYGuy your mark wasn’t not between the two it was on the inside of both the marks towards the bow not trying to be funny But going through this now and trying to get my cables installed is why I’m asking
