*Vipers of the genus Lachesis are extremely special for a variety of reasons. For starters, they are the largest venomous snakes on the American continent, and the longest vipers (Viperidae family) in the world. They are also the only oviparous vipers in the Americas (the other genera and species give birth to their young). All are scarce and their population density is very low, being directly related to the presence of intact primary forests.
Forest conservation is key to guaranteeing the well-being of endangered species.
