Luckily I understand this quite easily. I can use what I learned from spanish for this. "Hay" means "there is/is there". "Tengo" means "I have". So for non-living things, I can say that I have access to them with "hay" (あります) while I can say that they're in my posession with "tengo" (もっています).

Me too. Over a decade. Lesson after lesson, all the stuff I could never really understand she just keeps teaching us. Makes me so mad at all the other teachers also cause they suck so bad and fail to teach anything correctly and waste years upon years upon years upon years of our time. I could have know this stuff forever ago.

It's OK. we often say that. But we dont say anata no uchi. (your house) We say anata no ouchi.(うち→おうち)
