Thanks for the explanation, I needed to add some grommets to a bathing suit and the leatherette reinforcement fabric that I got from the upholstery store made all the difference. I cut mine much smaller than the ones that you made, basically a donut shape around the perimeter of the grommet. Much appreciated!

So so helpful! I’m going to try interfacing as the second layer, so we’ll see how it goes 😆

Did it work?
@fionabrennan9148

@@travelswithdebbierandy It did! I ended up with 3 layers and the grommets worked nicely with them 😊 Edit: I think the interfacing also helped to “stabilize” the stretchy fabric.

Where did you buy your eyelet tool?

would this work for a homemade fix of a zipper to lace up back dress ? I recently got the most lovely dress but sadly it arrived with a broken zip at the back and Im looking to change it to a lace up but taking it to a tailor is just far to expensive so Ive been wanting to do it at home for cheaper but the "velvet" part is extremely stretchy would putting some linen cloth then doing the grommets help like this or do I need something like fake leather ?
@RandomDesign

A stronger linen cloth could also work. It is most important, that the supporting fabric does not stretch. Therefore, faux leather is a good choice.

Can you use non stretch interfacing instead of none stretch fabric?
@RandomDesign

If the interfacing is strong enough it should be no problem. I would try on a small test piece first.

How about using iron-on patches (thiner ones, not like a denim patch) Maybe not as durable, but as long as it adheres to the fabric, Could be a lighter weight option? Tho I imagine tear-away/ break-away backing as used in embroidery wouldn't work

Its not a special brand, we bought it at our local hardware store. You can also finde those in nearly any craft store.

Great tip. If I trim the vinyl once the eyelet is set, will that effect anything? Will the eyelet still stay in place.
@RandomDesign
8 жыл бұрын
I would not trim the vinyl/the support fabric all the way down to the eyelet. just leave some space like 2-3 m.

But can't you just add the patch before you put the eyelid or anything on and then Punch The Grommet through both Fabrics all together at one time instead of doing two separate holes??
