Sharing my notes after watching 5 steph curry videos straight: 1. Feet - don't be squared up, about 30 degrees turn - shooting hip, elbow, shoulder are all aligned to the basket 2. Don't plant heels, stand on balls of feet 3. One motion shot - never break the plane of your forehead (behind and then forward). Ball never pauses. 4. Shotline - right side of body through his eye brow to the basket. - left hand shoots the ball into his right hand 5. Set point - When fingers point toward eyebrow release, in front of face 6. Middle Finger Release - middle finger directly center of the ball . Last finger to touch ball is middle finger. - palm rotation. From side of the ball and rotate it as you reach your set point so that palm behind the ball 7. Guide Hand - some coaches say fingers facing ceiling the whole time, wrong - Guide hand flicks toward the basket (optional thumb inside) 8. Arm extension - Completely straight after release, locks out. Wrist snaps Drill 1: Bounce ups - bounce above head, 2 footed hop into jumper, dip Drill 2: Pick ups - ball on ground, outside dominate foot, shoot it toward hoop in one fluid motion - avoids 2 motion shot Drill 3: Transition pull up 3's - dribble toward 3 point line with inside hand, pull over ball to dominate hand - for right hand, brush elbow on hip bone Drill 4: 180 3's - spin ball to self, hop catch, locating, aiming

Hey so this is prob gonna get buried but I just wanted to say. I was a mediocre shooter AT BEST and went from good to sucking after not practicing for a day. This was bc I had no consistent form. But today I binged watched like all of your shooting and dribbling moves and was so pumped I used my 30 min break to run to the gym to practice some of those moves. I kept my feet arched Guiding hand turned Knees and body bent Instantly my shot was SOOO much more consistent and even when I missed it was either JUST hitting the rim on either side meaning my power was slightly off and hardly ever went right or left. Did I mention I only had 15 min to try all of this. I just wanted to say I’m really grateful. I’m 20 and suddenly got this insane love for basketball and want to join a league someday and your videos have just done so much for me. Again… I just really wanted to say thank you 😭🤌

I never played basketball cuz i hated it but now its so easy for me to hit one 3 pointer after another. I think i mastered currys shooting form. (Brace yourself... long ass comment) about the guide hand... the guide hand isn't really primarily there to guide the ball. From an engineering perspective, your 2 arms are on opposing sides of your center of gravity. Therefore, if there is a difference in kinetic energy produced in one hand over the other, this will create torque in your upper body spinning your body off-target Your guiding hand should not only be providing "guidance" but should be providing "support/power" for your shot. Your thumb is EXTREMELY important in this. The more even the workload distribution between your right arm and your left arm, the better... which is partially corrected without even using the guide hand. Self experiment: Try one-hand shooting (I'm sure you have done this before). You are likely to miss short (very short) and opposite direction of your shooting hand. Most would tell you this is because you lack support from the guide hand... but that's not true. Now... the second part to the experiment Try one-hand shooting, but keep your guide hand away from the ball, but still fully extend your guiding arm (make sure you are not touching the ball in any way though). If you have a good enough shooting hand, this may look almost exactly like your regular shot (almost...). This is because the primary arm is heavier (because there is a ball in it) but the guiding arm is farther back. The final point at which your right and left hand are touching the ball, your left arm is at full extension and your right arm is only at 90 degrees. This means in physics terms that the distance traveled (and therefore velocity and momentum both) of the dominant arm (UP TO THE LAST POINT BOTH HANDS ARE GUIDING THE BALL) is more than that of the other arm because the ball is in it... and it is exactly that which needs to be corrected by having your dominant foot forward. Eventually (depending on body type) You need to find the perfect compromise for where the angle needs to be. Sidenote: this can be corrected in the air by moving a foot forward and to the side to correct torquing, but that is a very precise skill... that Steph Curry has mastered btw. If you are a small player, you will need more turn to offset the weight of the ball. If you are a large player, you may need more turn to offset the shoulder tension that comes with being large. If you are somewhere in the middle, you may not need much turn... but I still recommend using more turn than you need for strategic purposes. You can correct your shot through moving your release throughout your fingers to suit nearly any shooting angle... but there are other reasons you need to be more staggered. 1. Your back feet is where your power comes from, and your back foot does the bulk of that (especially if you fade back). The farther back your back foot is, the farther your fade and the more powerful your straight up shot. 2. Your back foot also initiates in any pumpfake and drive situation. Whether you want to cross over, step back, spinmove, draw a foul, hesi, fake cross, or whatever, it's ultimately your back foot that creates any movement toward the basket. 2 feet exactly equidistant from the hoop means you either need to generate your forward motion from your heels (I'm sure you've heard the expression "got him on his heels"... that's bad... it means you have no way of creating forward or backward motion) or you have to pick up a foot and move it back so you can get some momentum moving forward (thereby telegraphing your intent to drive and forcing you to dribble 1 step earlier to avoid the travel call. 3. A staggered stance allows you to dribble between the legs (The most useful dribble in the game). The between the leg dribble is the most usefull for a lot of reasons... most of which are derivative of: a- you have a position with forward, backward, and side to side motion potential. b- Your dribble is going directly under your center of gravity, and therefore doesn't inhibit your speed in any way. c- The ball is not too far forward and your leg is now an obstacle making the strip much more difficult (and costly for the defender if they defend too closely) Between these 3 reasons, you are now able to between the legs dribble into a shot pumpfake crossover crossfake hesi drive spinmove spinmove to post-up euro off either foot euro handoff stepback (either direction) sidefade (either direction) fadeaway (Dirk-style) fade-fake to drive drive-fake to fade fade-fake into drawing a foul and any combo you could name Coaches say that being asymmetrical is a problem... but really it's not. You simply need to have an option to beat the defender in any direction. If your defender has to respect 5 things, you can use one threat to get you an opening for another opportunity. If you have 5 things, you can just fake out your defender nonstop until you get something you will settle for. From your shooting stance, you need 1. Respectable jumpshot 2. Respectable fade 3. Respectable drive 4. move left 5. Move right Me personally, I have 1. a standard jumpshot... not that much vertical 2. a Dirk-style fadeaway 3. a spinmove to drive if the defender gets too close 4. a side-step fade going left (with threat of up-and-under) 5. a spinmove to stepback going right (with the threat of the up-and-under) With this skillset, I can get up a good shot, pick up a foul, or draw a double and dish in 4 to five seconds every single time

I like the clear explanation and I can see those adjustments will immediately help my shot. I am finding the more I imitate and emulate shooting like 30 the better I shoot. It would be cool to mix in some Steph shots even more when you explain each different part of the shot. Like, do the explanation the same way you do but for the feet explain then follow with Steph. When you explain the elbow hip show Steph right after you do it. That would help me because I am a visual learner. Keep up the great work. I can feel those adjustments already working in my visualizations and I know I'll shoot better today when I get in there for my 100 shots or so. Peace love and basketball is all we need.

Lillard, Ivring, James, Thompson, Durant, Westbrook, all professional basketball players practice everday and shot all the time.. I don't see them being as successful as Curry? What's the deal here dude? I thought if you do things you said that you will be as good as Curry, but how come Curry is the greatest shooter of all time, but not anyone else who does the same thing?

Stephen Curry has a thumb flick but not as much any more and sometimes he shoots with his pointer finger
@garyraab9132
Жыл бұрын
Stephen’s shot mechanics are very similar to Roger Federer’s serve. Fluid motion. Elbow, arm, wrist position nearly identical as the bball begins moving toward the basket, as the butt of the tennis racquet begins moving toward the 🎾. The wrist motion in tennis is called pronation... however in both sports the motion is like lifting your arm from your side and pointing at your target, with a loose supple arm and wrist. Old school Pistol Pete Maravich, elbow in ,,,u shape...point. The mechanics in the video are reasonably well explained...what requires closer attention is Stephen’s body mechanics...and the physics vector forces. If the multiple vector forces in action are not closely aligned, like the poor alignment when taking the ball back behind your head, requires a lot of less than shuttle adjustments to keep your shot aligned...to keep the force vectors aligned. Poor alignment and the jump shoot shooter is not coming back down to the court from the point he/she took off from. A good shooter sticks the landing...like a gymnast. A good shooter keeps his/her head still, eye fixed on your target...like Roger Federer stay focused on the tennis ball. If you do not have the physique and flexibility of Stephen Currie, or Roger Federer, the series of fluid motion explained may be far more difficult for you...don’t be discouraged. Shack was a less than ideal free throw shooter...huge hand...stiff wrist. Tennis player, basketball player, basketball coach, physics instructor.

FInally! I'm glad you talked about the shot line and how Curry brings the ball to his right hand. Like many, I'm not professional player but have worked on my shot through the years and gotten it to a decent point. But I noticed I struggled at times with my shot off the dribble and with bad passes from teammates. I actually did what you suggested (using the left hand to bring the ball to the shooting line but not consistently). I'm gonna try it now and see if it improves my shot.
