Hi, I'm 65 years old and have had BPH for more than 10 years. My doctor is keen for me to have surgery, but I'm not. I saw your video 6 days ago, the next day I purchased a zinc supplement, taking 60mg each night before bed. 2 days after starting I noticed the urgency to urinate had gone and I only had to urinate 3 times a night instead of my usual 6 or more. 4 days after starting zinc I slept through the night; I haven't been able to do that for years! I have found my urinary flow has greatly improved and I'm not experiencing interrupted flow any longer. I'm amazed at the result, but I'm more amazed by the speed of the change. Thanks doctor, you have given me my life back.

@@rogerdavidson6236 Yes it really was that fast, the form of zinc I was using was "Zinc citrate dihydrate" 2x 30mg tablets. I was using the "Caruso's" brand, but I believe the form not the brand is important. After a few weeks I had used all the tablets in the bottle and my wife purchased another brand as "Zinc glycinate" and my dosage was 2x40mg. I found that over a week or so the symptoms came back, I went back to chemist and repurchased the original tablets and a few days later the symptoms started to subside again. I'm still not certain my dosage is correct and intend to try to optimise the dosage over the next few months as the symptoms are greatly reduced but not completely gone. The urgency to urinate is once again completely gone however. I hope this helps. Mike

There is a lot to this statement. Having junk in one's system preventing absorbtion. Stop the junk, zinc levels increase with a clean diet. On a tangent, there are combination of minerals/vitamins that need to be taken together. Vitamin D supplement should be taken with a meal that has some fat in it ( avocado, butter , bacon, etc ). Iron absorption is aided by vitamin C. Antiinflammatory Tumeric is absorbed better with a little black pepper.

A little over a month ago I watched your video on foods to eat to reduce or shrink the prostate. I had blood work done and my PSA was 4.16, so the urologist said come back in 30 days for more blood work. After that visit and watching your video, I made sure I added these foods to my diet. I had my 30 check up yesterday and my PSA was 4.15. I told the doctor I was working on shrinking my prostate with my diet. He rolled his eyes and said, what a waste of time. He more than once said that my numbers are not that high, he wanted to schedule me for an MRI, I said, since my numbers are not that bad, give a year and let me continue working on my diet. "OH NO", was his reply. So now I have to go back in 3 months, I can tell he already annoyed with me because I will apparently be seeing a different person when I return. I will spend the next 3 months shoving everything down my throat that shrinks a prostate, (except oysters, I can't do that). I take zinc supplements (perhaps not enough) as well as colloidal minerals, I eat organic beef (only 1/2 lb. per week) I eat tons of fat (mostly olive oil and nuts) I eat very little grains and am not on any medication. My prostate, though, is enlarged and does effect urination, etc. and is a cause of some concern. I appreciate the discussion this video has spawn - perhaps my stomach acid level is very low, and maybe I need to start taking Saw Palmetto. Thanks for putting these videos out!

im in almost the exact same boat...couple of things i went on full keto for a month, no more than 50 grams of net carbs per day, after a month my urine flow; while not perfect, was Muuuuch improved...you have to cut down all carbs, not just grains, i only say this because you mentioned 'grains' but no other carbs ....also i've read that foods like grains, nuts, dairy and spinach inhibit zinc absorption , which sucks because i snack on walnuts and cooked spinach is a Huuuuge potassium source ...i also noticed that when i have even a small amount of lower sugar ice cream from Publix, it seems to affect (hurt) my urine flow pretty fast, so there is something to be said for carbs and dairy messing with the prostate / zinc gonna try straight liquid zinc, and take it as far away as i can from anything that can slow or stop the absorption hope this info helps

I think zinc is a great nutrient and I supplement it every day. But what I'm hearing here is a correlation. What if the prostate having some other underlying problem is *causing* the zinc deficiency? And not the other way around? I didn't hear anything in this video to convince me that this wasn't the case. Also we're starting to learn similar things about DHT, it's not necessarily causal in hair loss or prostate issues, it just gets expressed in higher amounts in local tissues when those regions have underlying issues (in the case of hair, calcification and fibrosis). So zinc is great, anecdotally for me at least. But I didn't hear a sufficient argument that it directly helps the prostate. Just an interesting correlation.

A question about causation here: how do we know that low levels of zinc in the prostate are caused by zinc deficiency in a diet vs. being caused by an underlying pathology that decreases the prostate's ability to retain zinc? Maybe whatever causes prostate enlargement also decreases the ability of the prostate to retain zinc?
@leondbleondb

Good question. However he mentioned near the end of the video things that cause Zinc deficiency
@Mark4Jesus

One single factor could cause both zinc deficiency and enlarged prostate, so it's still just correlation. I hope to see some tests, like maybe those who take zinc vs those who take more zinc.

@@Mark4Jesus I thought the same thing. Despite the issue of causation, it sounded like increasing / improving zinc uptake would help improve the balance of zinc in the prostate. His checklist of what can adversely affect zinc uptake is a description of my current diet. It's time for a change.
@taaskeprins

Exactly. Mono-causal explanations are way to simple. There is a vid on the channel of Dr. Been about blocked zinc pathways in the prostate cells. So zinc supplenetation will not work in these cases. He discusses an article that suggest proteine pathways are a route for zinc to the prostate. So I started taking zinc with proteine shakes and in three weeks ended up with a blatter infection and acute prostatitis. Was peeing blood for a few days. Best common sense way is to have a non-rigid diet and practice calory restriction. BTW, I always notice worsening of my prostate condition when eating dairy products (yoghurt especially). So that is out of my diet now.

I took these pills for a year and had no improvement at all. I have since stopped and also decreased my coffee consumption and guess what. My getting up at night has decline to about half. "As it (the prostate) gets bigger, you're more at risk of getting prostate cancer." With all due respect, I'm not sure that is true... But, what is true is that as your prostate gets bigger, you're more at risk of a higher PSA which means you're more likely to get biopsied. And cancer, often times clinically insignificant, is more likely to be found just by nature of more biopsies of big prostates than small ones. Also, there are studies out there that show the opposite: Big prostates are believed to possibly suppress cancer growth and appear to have a lower risk of significant cancer than smaller prostates.
