I had this problem to and I still have this problem when I wake up in the middle of the night. U have to be comfortable with wanting to go to sleep. Try to relax and embrace the feeling naturally. Don't focus on going to sleep or your thoughts let all that come and go. If that doesn't work try to lightly visualize something and focus on that. If it's from being anxious and uncomfortable stretch and try to lay in a position that is comfortable and don't toss and turn let your body stay in that position. Sometimes these things work for me as I have had bad night ls falling asleep for a month until I tried to just embrace it and not think or force myself asleep when I lay down.

@Andrewtatesbutt
Жыл бұрын
This is because sleep isn’t something you think about or our effort into making better . You just let sleep do it’s own thing to be honest . Abandon safety behaviors if they don’t help you or your schedule. If you feel like you can’t sleep or nap during the day because it will mess up your sleep schedule , then just do it . Don’t put effort or thoughts into trying to sleep

The thing is, I don't purposely take naps. I'm a reader. I love reading, but when I try to read during the day I typically get tired, my eyes get droopy, and I fall asleep. but if I read at night, I'm wide awake and focused on what the book is saying and 5 hours can pass by and I don't even realize

I discovered this a few years ago. Instead of fighting it i would just enjoy the time and eventually fall back to sleep.

The moment you open that book and start reading, it's over. Instant cure.

Istg its so frustrating, I'm tired all day, I wanna sleep, while working, driving, socialising, working out. When I get home and lay on my bed it's like all the sleep just disappears, I want to sleep but my brain refuses to sleep. Per chance I do sleep the slightest of noise will wake me up.

I suddenly, for some reason watched this vid while being awake with racing thoughts. The explanation is spot on

I maintained the same schedule for years. Start trying to sleep around 10, wake up at 6:30. I never fell asleep before 1, I woke up around 2-5 every night, my body never adjusted, I wound up trying to function on about 4-6 hours every day.

That's very convenient unless you have something to do the next day. Wich is why you are trying to sleep.

Notice how the "sleep expert" looks so comfy and relaxed and probably nods off at the drop of a hat. 🙄

Hey, I took medicine before bed on a school night. I’m sick. I have a cold. The medicine I took made me unable to sleep. Now it’s 4 AM, and I have to wake up at 6:30

It’s about accepting that you’ll be up all night and be tired for the day. You’ll KTFO whenever that happens

It is a mental struggle. Funny how many experts say "get out of bed when u can't sleep"

Easier said than done, because when your insomnia accompanies you with increased anxiety as the night advances into dawn, it makes me crazy. Nope sir it’s not as easy as you said

As a person with genetically passed down insomnia and ADHD (inattentive), this really helped but I’m confused as to if I need to be comfortable being awake or be comfortable while being awake-
