Some people LOVE puzzles and problems.
Some people DON'T!
And some even think they won't help your brain at all!
Dr Allison Lamont and Gillian Eadie of the Healthy Memory Company and Brain and Memory Foundation have looked into the ‘puzzle debate’, too (the one that says ‘doing puzzles doesn't help your brain’).
Years ago, that's what used to be thought. But those myths have been blown away by MRI scans that show neuro-scientists exactly what happens in the brain when we try something that is hard for us to do.
Here's what they saw:
* increased brain activity.
* growth in dendrites
* AND improvement in cognition and working memory
* AND the results lasted for up to five years.
Even better than that, was the change in how the people in the clinical trials FELT. Those folk felt more alert in their thinking, found that they were more confident about what they could recall and tackle. And, most exciting of all, the effects of the mental stimulation stayed with them for up to five years!
• How to Solve Problems ...
Tackling puzzles and problems can do that for you, too.
We know though, that some of you haven’t spent time in the past doing puzzles.
• You were short of time (and they do take time)
• You had other important things to do.
Or, like the person who told us:
'I find that if I can’t do something straight away, I often get too upset to continue. It’s the same feeling I got in the classroom many years ago.'
A lot of us feel like that!
• How to Solve Problems ...
That's why we are going to share with you the secrets of how to become an Ace Problem-Solver!
You’ll be surprised because it isn't ‘rocket science’, It isn't hard.
And you can take as long as it takes.
The best news of all is
Every time you hit the wall in a problem, you are challenging your brain cells to grow!
And a brain that continues to grow new dendrites and brain cells is a brain that can push back against dementia, Alzheimer's and and other kinds of memory loss.
That's what the Healthy Memory Company and Brain and Memory Foundation want for everyone over the age of 50.
