A group of friends sit around in a circle and open up a basket of mince pies. When each person takes a mince pie out of the basket, one person doesn't recieve a mince pie as there's none left!
To make sure everyone joins in the festive fun, the group decides that each pair in the group should share one mince pie - when this is the case, there is one mince pie left over, not eaten.
Given this information, it is your job to find out how many friends and how many mince pies there are. Note that the number of friends in the diagram is just used as an example and is not the actual answer!
