Very cool 🤙 I just acquired a 41 pickup with a "fresh" 24 stud myself. I'm going to dig it out of the barn it's been sitting in for a while. Can't wait to get started on it lucky it's been restored a few years back just unfinished and never started so the engine is stuck at the moment.

@aroundlinemen yeah I put a mix of atf and Marvel's in the cylinders for a week or so broke it free without a complete rotation. Soaked it another week now it's good with fully rotating and the rings sound decent in the cylinders so I think we lucked out. I'll be firing it up the next couple months.

I just found your channel a week or two ago while looking for videos on dropping axles, and I love your work. Excellent job on everything I've watched so far. I'm moving back to my home state and will be working on some classic trucks and hot rods part-time, and these videos are getting me amped up to start on some of those projects!

LG gets better and better. Lux is going to be one lucky boy. We had grandchild number 8 arrive at 0225 on Friday morning. If I ever had the chance to own a truck it would be 40-41 ford or a 46 Chevy. I really like the waterfall grill on the chevys. Jim will have miles of smiles with a t5. All the very best Tim.

Congratulations Lee and Shannon on baby Lux! Great install on the T5, keeping the front bones stock. You didn’t mention the speedometer hookup, was it straight up? BTW, Hot Rod Works is closing , sort of, according to an article on the HAMB. They made great stuff!

We never hooked the speedometer up. Someone at some point in this trucks life swapped the speedometer out for an aftermarket electronic one, that never worked to begin with. I did not hear about Hot Rod Works closing. Bummer!

A very good Video Lee. This swap has been discussed many times on The Fordbarn Early V8 forum, you show how to do it. I hope you don't mind but I posted your link over there. There was some discussion about using the S10 version of the T5 but there was an overwhelming raft of comments about the quality of your workmanship and a lot of these "old boys" ( I'm one of the younger ones haha) don't hand out compliments lightly.

Cool! Thanks for sharing it! I just went and checked it out. Man, some of those guys really like to overthink stuff huh? Haha I thought the gearing on the S10 transmission in stock form was a huge improvement over the stock 3 speed.
@graemeburr6463
Жыл бұрын
@@LGKustoms You are right Lee but I remember 20 years ago there the S10 is what they talked about for this conversion. Those that have done it though seem happy and for modern day driving it has to be a big improvement over the old 3 speed which was for different times and different roads. That said the stock 3 on the tree Ford shifter has a real nice feel compared to others of the era. My 48 cpe came to NZ for assembly in a box from the Ontario plant and we got the flathead for 54 too.

7:09 - Ah hah, see that? Same problem as mine, the cross shaft is 1/2" shy of end of the bushing. Tech support told me to redrill my shaft, but no, I added length to it. I'm doing this exact Speedway kit right now on my '37 Ford with 59 FH V8. The sleeve was .003" too small, a lil lathework and some LockTite. I called Speedway Tech and they told me the threads are 7/16-14 - NOT! But I'll tell ya, the 12mm bolts work great after chasing the threads 12x1.75mm.

there isnt the upper hemisphere to clamp the rubber ball ,model a stock part. also, the stock 40 lower plate hangs the ball lower than the bottom of the rails. plus IF you think aboot it now, that lower plates could have been one piece, plus plus, the s10 tail uses a th350 mount, of which you can get with two downward projecting pins - rather than one in the middle.

I've probably watched this video a dozen times! I'm in the process of doing a T5 swap in my 40 Ford Coupe and first of all am having a real time getting the pin out of the existing drive shaft! Secondly, does your friend sell those "wishbone ball mounts"? My existing one isn't as rotted out as the one on you video but I may still need one.
@LGKustoms

Pretty sure I drilled the pin out. I usually drill them out. As for the wishbone mounts, Gord has retired from the foundry so I no longer have access to them.

If you would have used a 4x4 t5 you could have retained the torque tube.serval companys produce the kit.saves modifications on radius rods.
@LGKustoms
Жыл бұрын
I’ve seen people adapt Jeep T5’s to torque tubes. But I don’t know what the advantage is. The kit to adapt the T5 to the torque tube cost double what the open drive kit costs. The transmission needs to come apart, so you’ve got additional labor costs involved with that. And you still have to shorten the torque tube and driveshaft. The open drive kit was just over $600 for all the parts needed, and took about two hours to install. It’s also all completely reversible if you decided to go back to a torque tube and 3 speed transmission. In my opinion, it’s much more simple and economical.

I enjoy your videos and I have learned quite a bit from watching them. I have a 41 p/u also and I plan to install a s- 10 5 speed trans per your method. Can you sell the wishbone spacer like you used? I need to buy 2 of them. The other one is for a Model A. Thanks, keep making those videos.

Is there a conversion to hookup your speedometer to the 5 spd ??
@LGKustoms
8 ай бұрын
Depending on what T5 you have, and what speedometer you have, there are different ways to adapt them. This truck has an aftermarket speedometer that did not work, and the owner wasn’t bothered it did not work, so I never looked in to making it work with this T5. I have a playlist on installing an Ardun V8 in a 32 ford, and I cover making the speedometer work via GPS in that series.
