All I can say is this one video gave me more information than my discus trainer did in whole 4-5 years of my career. If only I had seen this video back then, sadly now i have patellar tendinitis and I have quit discus throw for about 6 months now. I'm 18 btw.

This was great, I’ve been relearning the discus throw and this series has been the best way to figure out wat I do wrong

Excellent presentation. Every young thrower should be required to watch this. Coaches, even more so.

Thank you so much for this video, JY! So timely for me! I'm starting and just working on standing throws and now I have more cues than distance and spin maintenance to guide me. Q: I've read that the spin typically adds about 20% to your standing throw distance. Does this ring true to you?
@LifeofJY
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, a decently efficient spin should be around there give it take. Tough because everyone’s different but it definitely shouldn’t be less than or equal to a stand

Is this a legal throw? Or do you have to spin 360? I understand you can get more distance as you progress into a full spin. But was just curious if one will by disqualified if they don’t spin?
@LifeofJY

Amanda Nair it’s legal you just have to stay inside the circle as you throw you don’t have to spin it just helps add distance

Ive coached HS and MS for a long while. 60 ft is typical 80 is getting solid 100' is superior (top 10%) of typical kids.

You cleverly flipped-mirrored the image left to right!. Easier for RH to visualize. Good luck with your throwing!

Standing is unrealistic and DANGEROUS except to determine max distance. Step and turn is more realistic.

You will never ever ever hit that stand position. Fail.
