You forgot to mention one of the biggest attributes of this knot which is the dimple it creates in the knot itself.

This is how I've been tying my ties since I was a kid. My mom taught me how to tie it like this. I thought this was how everybody tied it.

As a long-time Minneapolitan I feel I should point out that Don Shelby didn't start working in broadcast news until the late 1970s, and not as an anchor until the 1980s. He retired from active broadcasting in 2004.

Don Shelby can now be heard on the Tom Barnard Podcast. Great guy, down to earth, and funny as hell!

Amazing, thank you so so much! There's this one tie of mine, no knot would look good on it, but the Shelby knot did it! I'm really glad I got to see this video. Keep up the good work! (My God, what a bunch of complainers down there)

I am so glad you referred to this as the Shelby Knot and not as the Pratt Knot! Mainly because here in England ‘prat’ means a woefully and hilariously incompetent person.

I'm sorry but a windsor knot is the manliest knot out of them all, if that doesn't get you a job, laid or out of trouble, I don't know what will. My Dad taught me the 3 standard knots as a kid and always told me the best is the Windsor and I found that as I've grown up I've been given a lot of respect for donning the Windsor knot seeing as most people my age (I'm 18) can barely even do a 4 in hand.

Isn't this like the reverse full Windsor? Either way it's pert manly
@wildeval

Nonsense! I've been tying that knot since the late 50's. It's really what has been known as a "Windsor Knot", it is also similar to a "Victory Knot" promoted by Winston Churchill. Where the knot ends up being a perfect symmetrical "V".

"" The use of the tie is the origin of sexual perversion " Erections unwanted commonly due to stimulation of the neck. The fact of buttoning the last button of his shirt is a source of sexual pleasure because the neck, an erogenous zone, is stimulated by friction and pressure of the collar on the neck of the person. IN CONCLUSION: the tie is a symbol of submission, which results in sexual tension and narcissism. I physiologist and psychoanalyst.
