Been a carpenter for 25yrs and can’t figure out why he face nailed 2 nails @ every furring member leaving runs every 16” with exposed nails to see. Thats the beauty of T&G. The groove side doesn’t need a nail as it’s seated in the tongue. The other side of TG board is typically nailed at the crotch of the tongue so when the next board is seated, that nail is completely covered. In the end, no nails are on finished face with the exception of very first starter board where there is no other option. The work looked great in the video. But I can guarantee if I was in the room, I would see the face nailing. Of course it is fixable in the end. But why add an unnecessary step. Homeowners, and general contractors that build houses of this caliber know not to do this.

Love your videos bro. Definitely different approach to t and g ceilings than how I do them. I install them the other way. Male sticking out so that way you can nail through the male end and the nail holes are all hidden. And they stay up just as good as face nailed.

I would be super interested to see a video tour of the homes you do. Just a quick walk around, it's really nice to see what other finish guys are doing for work, especially the custom stuff, but that might not be your thing. Once again, another fun video to watch, thank you.

Okay, yeah, wow. I came here to say this. The rhythmic nail gun editing!?? Recognized. 5:45 is like a music video. And then 6:50?! I wept. All in one take, it’s like he was listening to the song already. Amazing. Bravo.

21° .131 x 3in framing nails, or something similar. And 16 gauge 2in straight nails for the T&G

How did you finish your tongue and groove? We're putting up spruce T&G and are looking for a non-amber color, so I'm think varathane water-based polyurethane, but interested in feedback from someone who's done it. Thanks!

In my personal house we did a thin layer of white paint to make it seem like an old white washed wood. I’m not sure what people do when they stain it. Almost everyone I’ve done it for ends up painting it a light ceiling color.

You should use a Bosch laser to measure with! That’s all I use running base and crown. The cheap one works great it measures to the 16th. I also have the more expensive one that measures in 32nd. Both are accurate!

How do you cut your 22.5° bullnose cuts on 7” crown?? I get the 34° bevel and 31.6° miter for inside/outside corners… But I’m stumped on bullnose corners! 5.25” crown no prob I use my crown stops, but I’m lost laying crown flat!
@TMPK
Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you’re cutting a 38° crown if you’re using 33.8 bevel and 31.6 miter for a 90° corner. The angles for a bull nose are 17.5 bevel, and 14.3 miter. There’s charts online that show you every angle, and the corresponding settings for a saw. I just googled “crown mould saw angles” and went to images and found some charts. For those 22.5° cuts you’re gonna look for 45° angle. Or 135°. Which is 90 plus 45. It’s dumb and complicated lol 😂

What wood are the beams made out of? Are the t and g boards glued as butt joints?
@TMPK
2 жыл бұрын
1x12 clear pine, yes glued at joints and only spliced in the middle of a nailing strip.
