I did mine last night, was easier than I expected it to be thanks to this video. Based on my experience, I recommend replacing the brake pad at the same time as the bearing. There was so much slop in the old bearing that the pulley had chewed up the pad enough that the auger/impeller does not immediately stop now like it should.

I'm just changing my bushing on my 826 Powermax. I really like your rubber band holding up the 3 carriage bolts. In other videos they disconnect the entire auger from the bucket. Your way makes it unnecessary to do that. Well done and Thank You.

No problem it's only 4 more bolts to take the auger out but if you don't have to why do it

I came back to review your very helpful advice because I’m about to replace a 2nd Toro auger bearing. The 1st replacement (months ago) went well, so I want to use the same tips & sequence of steps. I appreciate your help… again.

Cool !! I'm 74 years old and have wrenched on everything from big trucks and heavy equipment to racecars and gocarts, but have had very limited exposure to snow blowers. I have the exact unit as this one and it has that same bearing/bushing issue I just finished replacing the chute control lever on the dash and now I'm on to this. Had I not looked and found this tutorial, I was prepared to remove all the plastic chute stuff and pretty much do way more than necessary !! Thank you for making this video because now I'm gonna attack it and see if I can get it done in the hour you say it should take. This is my own machine that I got for free, so I'm getting it ready for winter in my spare time. I'm in N.H. so it should sell pretty readily as soon as the first snowstorm is predicted. Oh, and I subscribed and liked so hopefully it will help you toward more $$$$$ !!! Thanks again !!

Getting ready to do this on an 828LE Powermax . The grub screws on the auger pulley collar were in between a 1\4 &n3\8 extensions to work . Awaiting delv tomm of a 3\8 drive 4pt pipe plug socket 5\16 . I'm in hopes the pulley comes off smoothly & don't need the fire wand ..lol .

I'm thinking when mine gets bad I may just replace with a sealed ball bearing instead of that bushing. I never could understand why MTD, Craftsman, Ariens, etc. and others use a ball bearing instead of that bushing that Toro uses?

Hey nice video. It has helped install the auger bearings on a few Toros . I have a 2009 Simplicity pro series 1524 inch and the bucket is welded on the frame I can't separate the bucket. It needs an auger bearing, It has 2 set screws also. Do you know what size socket I need for the set screws. Is it an 8 point 5/16 socket maybe. Any ideas on removing the auger pulley from shaft if you can't separate the bucket Thanks, Jack

Some toros are a uni body design, they are more tricky cause you can't hit the shaft just have to find a spot to pry on the lip of the pulley and use heat

I could use some help. How many thrust washers are supposed to be on both sides of the auger bearing? The Power Max 926OXE (38661) I bought has one between the pulley & the auger bearing and 2 or 3 between the impeller & the auger bearing. I’m pretty sure it had 3, but everything is chewed up, so it’s hard to tell if one of them used to be part of the bearing. The Toro parts diagram only shows 1 washer between the pulley & auger bearing, none on the front side of auger bearing.
@Coakleyfixedit207
Жыл бұрын
The toro diagram is correct there are only a single washer between the pulley and bearing
@mics3747

@@Coakleyfixedit207 So perhaps a fool added 3 extra washers between the impeller & the auger bearing. Or maybe something was machined, then they added washers to fill the space lost from machining a face. I guess I’ll put washers back in only if there is in-and-out play. Thank you for your fast reply. I’ll watch for any more videos you might make about Toro equipment.

Great job, question why did you not lube the shaft when you install the pulley, next time it will be easier to pop-off, Next question what does a job like this cost
@Coakleyfixedit207
Жыл бұрын
These are not meant to have lubricant the bushing is soft bronze and lube will attract dirt and dust and wear it out faster, if you lube the shaft when you push the pulley on it oozes onto the bushing. Most shops will charge a full hour for this job and the bearing kit is $25-30

Do you recommend replacing the belts while you’re in there doing the bearing swap?
@Coakleyfixedit207

Might aswell while you have it apart, you can tell if the auger belt is worn but how far it's sunk into the pulley, new it should be almost flush with the top

I'm not in the Amazon affiliate program though I should be, your local toro dealer or Amazon would work, if you go to a toro dealer ask for the 12-8789 auger bearing kit some places will try and sell you the pieces individually

You need a 3/8 8 point socket for those set screws.
