How To Turbo Boost Your Fire Lighting and Prevent Smoke From a Cold Flue
Stove producers, stove showrooms, stove display centers and stove & fireplace shops you are free to put my videos on your own websites - many have already!
In this video we build a fire that is a top and bottom fire using my special inverted V technique described in a previous video as the bottom base fire. The most important point is having really dry kindling wood and logs (this is really important! Wet wood makes smoke and makes the glass dirty). So proper management of your log store is crucial. Always try whenever possible to keep one or two starting logs indoors, somewhere like an indoor cupboard, or if you can - in an airing cupboard! This is especially important for the kindling wood, it makes it all much easier if this can be achieved. Just keep replacing the logs in your extra dry storage as you use them so you always have a fresh supply for your next lighting. That's good fire lighting management! Plus, it will never let you down. I do buy in most of my logs (substainably) and use what ever wood becomes available whether from the garden or indeed a skip with a building pallet in it. That's sustainable management, recycling at it's best and very good for the environment. Wood pallets chopped up can produce very good kindling but make sure the wood is natural and untreated. A word of caution: Wood/Log burning stoves are a very safe way of heating your home, but they must never be left unattended! Check your home insurance small print to make sure you are properly covered in the very unlikely event of a house fire. Never store logs close to your stove. Wood burning stoves run very hot indeed and any nearby logs can catch fire with disastrous consequences! In the UK please be aware we have to have Carbon Monoxide detectors fitted. Carbon monoxide is given off when wood is brought up to burning temperature. The gas can still be present well after the fire appears to be out. Even cool embers and charcoal give off this deadly gas. If you follow these instructions for lighting your wood burning stove you will never, like me have a failed attempt again. Less fuss than most other ways! Every wood burner is slightly different in the way it needs to be lit, and every home has it's own draft characteristics. But following the lighting technique in this video will always get the best consistent result as long as you have very dry small pieces of kindling wood to start your fire. Logs have to be totally dry and ready to go. Useful forum: forums.moneysavingexpert.com/s... The link below has a good check list and tips on efficiency: www.stovesonline.co.uk/stove-c...
