I've had a few requests for this - a tutorial on how to read and understand SIDs and STAR's within the Flight Simulator world.
SIDs, or Standard Instrument Departures are pretty much always used when you depart in an airliner on VATSIM and knowing what is expected of you when using them is key! I hope to try and explain all the considerations here in the first part of this video.
The second part focusses on STARs or Standard Arrival Routes when flying into an airport in an Airliner. Again, knowing and understanding these is vital for you to succeed on VATSIM and get the most out of your own simulator experience. Usually, a STAR starts on the edge of an airway with the first waypoint transitioning out of the airway onto the arrival route into that specific airport, as a little bit of bonus info for those who have read this far!
I'll show you a few variations and the considerations of each, decoding all the information available to you on the charts.
We're using Navigraph for the purposes of this tutorial, but you can usually find different styles of charts on chartfox.org as a second option (though Navigraph is absolutely worth it!)
Hope you enjoy the video! Be sure to click Like and Subscribe, and let me know what you think in the comments below!
