Hey everyone, I thought I'd try talking a bit slower for this one as many people say I go to fast in my videos. 😅 Let me know what you think. Thanks for watching! Sorry for not including this but here is how you open tabs on the multidock: Go to the View menu at the top of the DAW and select the tabs you want open there. You will need an instrument track for the MIDI ones. P.S. If you want to use your *computer keyboard as a MIDI controller,* you can bring it up by going to Views > Virtual Keyboard > Computer Keyboard. Thanks to @Choco milk for pointing this out!

Hi, I'm guessing that this is a brilliant introduction to Cakewalk, but I completely disagree that it is for beginners. To me, a beginner is someone who is completely unfamiliar with basic techniques, terminology and actions. I've only just now worked out what a 'DAW' is, for example. I'm afraid my eyes glazed over after a minute or two, haven't got a clue what's really going on, so if this is an entry-level tutorial then I now realise that this is not for me and that I'd better look for a dedicated multi-track recording console. I think if you're going to post a video tutorial for 'beginners' then you should assume that a viewer may not understand little, if anything, of the terminology and data-manipulation that is shown, and may not even have the technical knowledge beyond being able to turn a PC on and load up KZitem. As I said, I'm sure that for those with the basic tech knowledge on the subject already that this is an excellent intro to Cakewalk and it's features.

Hey, thank you for such a thoughtful comment on this. I understand where you're coming from but my intentions were for people new to Cakewalk, not DAWs entirely. Tbh I came here, watched the tutorial and before that I didn't know anything about these terms and I have never had a DAW before. Great tutorial! For me, this was a good overview of the DAW and its features. Being familiar with other DAWs did help me to follow what was explained. If I were a newbie, I think the speed of the tutorial might have been a bit intimidating, but from the perspective of an intermediate user I think that this was a very intuitive look at the DAW. The layout was explained in about the same order in which I would have asked questions. This quickly helped me to grasp where the various "things" were, such as the mixer rack, track list, and list of plugins. Overall I would give this a 5-star review if that was a thing on KZitem. I haven't looked through any of the other videos in the channel yet, but I will definitely be poking through some more! If there isn't one already, I would love a video that focuses specifically on workflow tips, perhaps also broken down by area in the DAW. There were already a few tips in this video which I really liked, and I think an entire video just focusing on various tips and mouse/keyboard shortcuts would be really valuable for more experienced users that really want to establish a more efficient workflow.

Having grown too tired of the endless bugs in Studio One, I thought... hey lets try this free DAW. It has more learning curve than Studio One, but it is a phenomenally capable and stable DAW. I mean literally a few hours of time and you'll understand better. The terms and process seems so intricate and complicated. It sounds like a language u dont understand. But its not that complex once u get into it. I taught myself. IT IS...a lifetime learning process. But what i loved...is once i figured out the basics...i could sit in front of any program, search around to find what i need...and work it like i always used it. Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Although I'm not 100% sure, it may either be your volume levels in the plugin/DAW (pre-gain or mixer level) or could be your preferences. If you have something else open with media playing, you'll have to check off the box I mentioned in the beginning of the video to get it to work I think. I would also check your drivers and playback devices, even with your computer if nothing else works from the DAWs settings. I hope this helps, let me know how it goes!

Hi I have a lot of questions to ask about cakewalk, if you can answer it would be helpful. 1) How much size is the folder of cakewalk without downloading those add ons? ( Only downloading the daw) 2) And how much is the file size after installing cakewalk with all add ons? 3) Will Cakewalk run on Win7 ultimate edition? 4) If I download only the DAW, can I download the add ons afterwards?

Good intro. I've had Sonar X3 for years and I still get frustrated sometimes figuring things out. Bought a book on amazon on how to use Sonar X3, it's over 1,000 pages! When I just want to make music but then struggle with the software, it can take the fun out of it. Hadn't used it in quite some time and found my Roland ua-25ex interface just crapped out. Bought a Focusrite scarlett 4i4 and now I'm back up and running. I've always thought there should be a school you could go to, to learn how to use the software. I know it would cut down the learning curve time significantly.

Having been a Sonar user, I may have an answer. If you have a MIDI track in Sonar, you have to insert a soft synth like TTS-1 or Dimension Pro and assign it to that track in order to hear the music in that track play. Don't know what soft synths or plugins are included with Cakewalk by BandLab, but I am guessing it would work the same way. Everyone who is not hearing music may be in this same situation. Great video I'm sure but it's not actually for beginners. It assumes you already know al lot about the different things being referenced by their names and that you already have a load of plugins installed. I'm a beginner - just downloaded Cakewalk to start learning about music production and trying to compile some tracks from audio clips - and I have no plugins, I don't understand any of the terms being used so 70% of this video was over my head. But then again my level of beginner is such that I don't know what a DAW is. What is MIDI? How to I get plugins? How do I add a note? I can draw a line in the Piano Roll but no sound when I hit play. How do I assign a sound to it? Basic stuff I know, but then again I'm a beginner and this is what I was hoping to learn. I'll come back and watch this again once I've found some videos for total newbies! Then this video will probably make a lot more sense!
