This is a fantastic video…this is the 4th video I watched on my maps…I said before I’ll probably not learn anything new…wow was I wrong…I learned a ton!!! I have one comment and someone may have shared or you may know by now…at 8:37, you say that the route features may not be the best if you want to avoid a road etc…you can drag the route to the road you wish to take. Again thanks and fantastic video!

Thanks for you kind words! Also to note when I said that, I meant that MyMaps doesn't provide updated traffic information like a GPS. Yes you can move the route if you know beforehand, but it doesn't work like Google Maps or Wase.

Great video man! You outdid yourself on how thorough this is, yet still concise. SUBSCRIBED! PS: I like this video particularly because I was trying to find out how to plan a route with Google My Maps and you noted that it doesn't work with GPS. But, my other application is plotting well locations for our non-profit and these don't have place names. The bit you shared about custom markers is what I needed to know! Maybe you can make a followup video where you demonstrate *how to import KML data* (I saw that you can export)?

Great video, thanks! Just a question: What do you mean that with the directions.... that it's not working with GPS? Please explain what the warning is about :)
@CoastersTravels

Using directions on Google My Maps is just a visual representation since My Maps doesn't have GPS capabilities. You can't use it as a GPS like you can on Google Maps, BUT you can use your custom map on Google Maps and get real-time directions fine.

Thank you for a easy to follow video on My Maps. Is there a way you can route on your phone from a map you create on my maps. Some videos show a send to phone option but I cant see anything like that. It would be brilliant if I can create the routes on my PC and use them as drop off points on a route

Excellent one !! Is there such versions available for Apple Maps or Waze or other platforms ? How can I search and see others “my maps” contribution (assuming it’s public)
@CoastersTravels
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! To answer your questions: 1. This is a google service, so you can only see your map via Google Maps. I show how to do it here (7:14) 2. I explain in the beginning (1:04) that any maps you made in the past will be shown in the main screen.
@alwaysarafath

@@CoastersTravels thanks ! I understand both - but what I am asking is, Is there any similar service available for apple or ware users ? Yes I understand I can view my contributions - but when I make it public how can “others” see my contribution ? I know I can share it to my contacts - but can it be searchable for anyone on the internet ? I am thinking how I can help with my knowledge here by creating maps with stops etc and making it useful for public

@@alwaysarafath Sorry for the super late response, but to answer your questions: 1. Apple Maps have a feature called "My Guides" where you can add places to a list. You have the ability to make multiple guides and share your them to others. (i may make a tutorial for this). Waze has "Saved Places" where you can add places in a single list. 2. If you click on the "share' button, you should have options to share to anyone via link, and/or allow the internet to search for your map,

Question: I already use google Maps for creating driving maps. Is there a way to use a “my Map” in Gmaps? Or, do I just have to duplicate everything to have both versions?
@CoastersTravels

Yes, I explain it at 7:14

@@CoastersTravels That was just one point at a time. Correct? I'm hoping it would run the whole route as if I created it in Gmaps. Maybe I missed something. I'm going to watch it again.
@CoastersTravels

@@RideAsOne I had to re-read your whole post, but I think I understand what you’re talking about. With Google maps, I’m assuming you have multiple stops for your driving route. You cannot bring over routes you made in Google maps to My Maps, so yes, you will have to duplicate it to My Maps. Personally, if you already made a driving route on Google Maps, I would just continue using that since My Maps doesn’t have gps. However if you still want to use My Maps for planning, you can just plug in your places via my tutorial, and use Google Maps per destination like I explained at 7:14.

@@CoastersTravels Hi, thank you again for your reply! Yes, something like that..:-) I do motorcycle tours and use Gmaps for my routes with stops and pins to make sure the route goes exactly where I need it to go. I was hoping I could use MyMaps as the starting point of planning to get all of the additional planning tools you described and then send that over to Gmaps to run. I see now that's not totally possible. But, I can still get some benefits out of the initial planning stages with MyMaps and your tutorial. Thanks again!!!

Google Mymaps cannot readily be used as navigation on a cellphone or gps. You can try. But you wont succeed.

That is correct. My Maps have no navigation feature. This is why at 7:14 I show how to access My Maps through Google Maps so you CAN use navigation.

@@SmokeyA55 SUPER later response, but My Maps is a browser based service. As long your device has a browser you can access My Maps through it. Again not really intuitive on a phone, but may work better on a tablet sized screen.
