Really cool and inspiring. It's true that it's not always clear how to train kata techniques in a sparring session. Your method seems to be straightforward and very applicable. In Oshukai Shorin-Ryu, we have some form of bunkai sparring as well.

Great video! 20 years ago when I started practicing Shotokan, I’d have said “That’s not Karate!!!” But now I’ve learned, and been shown, that the original core of Karate actually IS two person drills at grappling range. And the Kata encode these drills in a way that can be practiced solo when you don’t have a training partner. Kata are, in part, homework ;)
