My childhood 1968-1986 sounded so magical, culminating in Howard Jones and his contemporaries. People roll their eyes, but true music genius has been ten times as rare ever since. Boomers disagree, GenX and beyond disagree, but I consider myself on the cusp of 2 generations, raised with Boomers for siblings and schooled with GenX. Right here in the middle was the Golden Age to me. And it was an honor and a pleasure to be raised by the Greatest Generation.

The last of the great decades. 90s had some merits but not quite as good. 2000 onwards just forget it.

I have no idea what the 80s were like, let alone the 90s. However, I do know that the music WAS better!

Everything was better in the 80s. The economy hadn’t yet gone down the drain, music and movies were unique and original, and even the ads had their own jingles (as opposed to copping 30 year old pop songs).

@@Ironcabbit there was a recession in the 80s too at one point. People were taking their keys to estate agents cus they couldnt pay their mortgages and losing their homes. I was there and saw it .not all grand but simpler days and of course the music was great.

@Deus Vult Yes, it sounds like a good life. If it were me, I think I'd use my time machine to go back to the 90s. I think the 90s were the perfect balance between technology and life. The internet has made life too easy, I think. But, in the 90s, the internet was used as a tool, as it was supposed to be, not as someone's whole life!

I lived the heyday of the late 70’s and 80’s and there was no better time for all genres of rock. Howard Jones had a great string of hits in the 80’s and always give me nostalgia for the true “good ‘ol days”.

@@jones1068 so true....unfortunately. Ego and titillation can sell alot of records and you don't need to be as talented as Howard jones to do it....sad.... So, with that in mind, I'll keep rockin this song (album) from time to time.... lest we forget....

Every time I hear this song it reminds me of Better Off Dead with Jon Cusak. I can’t believe how f#cked the world is when everything seemed so golden in the eighties

Well apart from the fear of imminent nuclear destruction, I loved the eighties (I was born early seventies) great art comes from a place of struggle and there was a real sense of imminent danger in the eighties I think a lot of people forget and just remember the good

john francis you couldn’t be more right! I too was born in the early seventies, 1974 to be exact. We were to young to understand what was going on. As I grew older I learned about Iran-Contra affair, gas shortages, AIDS and Ronald Reagan! I guess ignorance can be bliss, until you are old enough to read it in the history books.
