Interestingly, this very evening...the national tour of PROMISES, PROMISES was playing in Melbourne, with Orson Bean imported from America for the starring role. A friend linked me to the Google Books version of THE AGE newspaper and I saw the ad for it.

The music on the Dunhill TVC sends a shiver up the spine (in a good way)! I was six at the time - and remember it well. They must have played this one to death...!

@rizmid The track at 4:14 is 'Promises, Promises' and is taken from the London Cast production of the play of the same name, with all music by Burt Bacharach. This section is in the overture track. Just been re-released on CD. Great by the way! the Bacharach version at 2:07 I would presume is just an orchestra doing a cover version, which I don't know. Hope this helps...

According to BoxRec, Watson won the fight on points in what was the only bout of his career. (Lewis fought four times, all in 1970 and all at Festival Hall in Melbourne, and was 0-4.)

Excellent stuff - I have around 25 reels for 1/2" SONY tape recorded on a National J-Standard machine from around '73-76 & I MUST get these transferred!!! It's a pity all these various types of machines were not a set standard - National won't play on a Sony, won't play on a , Shibaden, won't play of a Sony etc etc.

The commentator that call Cliff Watson "the dark boy in the black dressing gown". Would have been sacked that very next morning if it were 2011.

#BlackDressingGownsMatter Also he had to say that because colour tv didn’t exist in Oz back in 1970.
