Founded around 150 years ago during the reign of King Rama V at the confluence of three khlongs (‘canals’), the Hua Takhe community was once a bustling waterway junction.
With the advent of transport by roads it’s been forgotten by time and the more than a century year old wooden houses alongside a walkway next to the riverbank give a glimpse of life from a bygone era.
Almost untouched by time despite occasional attempts to place it on the tourist trail, Hua Takhe has plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, convenience stores blended in with a thriving arts and crafts scene and has a deep Chinese influence. Busier at the weekend its very quiet and peaceful during weekdays.
Hua Takhe takes its name from "Croc's Head" as during the excavation of the canals a crocodile's head was dug up.
