I am armed with a 44Magnum. I am an experienced Bear Safari Guide and if you guide long enough, you run into bears like this one which approached us. The best thing you can do is stand your ground, have your bearspray ready, and make yourself big and loud when necessary. In over a decade working around THESE bears, on THIS river, I have never needed to deploy my firearm. ADVENTURE RESPONSIBLY ⚠️

@patriciasawyer24 bear spray is a highly effective deterrent. Check out what the park service says about bear spray. I personally have used bear spray a number of times on problem bears with a great success rate. Brown bears come around the lodge, and when they do, sometimes you have to forcefully get them to leave. You have to understand your weapon for it to be effective. Most people greatly over estimate the distance bear spray is effective. It's about 10 feet. Outside that beat spray has no PRACTICAL effect.

It’s not in a charging posture, it’s not behaving aggressively, it’s not trying to stalk them, bear spray is effective at around that range, and bears are extremely unlikely to attack large groups. I believe the stat is that nobody in a group of four or more has ever been killed by a wild bear in the wilderness. Even though this looks dangerous, it was a very safe encounter

When my uncle lived in Alaska, he told us about the hand cannon he took fishing with him. I asked, why the hell do you need a firearm to fish? You're not shooting the fish. He said, sometimes, the bears want the same fish. Let them pick their spots, go down river and enjoy. If a bear wants your fish, let it. If a bear wants you, make sure you have a big enough caliber in your firearm. Me, being from Virginia, never thought of that. Sound advice though. Be prepared for whatever you may encounter in your environment and enjoy what nature has to offer. After going to Alaska myself about a month ago, I see why people love it so much. Can't wait to go back!

@@davida6146 Depends on where you live, but eating the meat of a predatory animal might be a bad idea, as they can contain bacteria and the larvae of dangerous parasites. Generally safe if prepared properly. Its a shame, because I hate the idea of animals being killed and their meat going to waste.

We absolutely agree on Timothy Treadwell, lol. I get the gun readiness; 6 of my kids are military members and another one one is a police officer. But a grizzly’s movements that close are still unpredictable, and they can be pretty darn quick as well. Lots of people think they have a situation under control until they don’t. I’m not underestimating your attack prowess. I’m just not underestimating the grizzly’s either.

Yeah after a while of being around them you learn what they are like and they are really pretty predictable. A lot more so than say a traffic stop. Cops are in way more danger on a daily basis than I ever was around these bears. That said I've had bluff charges and such and it's nerve wracking at times especially if you got 20 bears within a 100 yards of you. Staying on your toes and treating them like wild animals is vital to staying alive out there. Stay safe. Best wishes for you and your children.

@@CalebJacquesOr bc he fu%ked around with bears instead of just letting them live. You go into their home territory and they maul one of your customers or you and then the park service tracks him down and kills him bc you're an idiot. If you need to bring a gun where you're going that's a red flag that you shouldn't go there. I'm a legal gun owner and I have it to protect my family incase someone breaks into my house. However, if I took a gun and broke into someone else's house with a gun on me I'd go to jail bc I'm wrong. Just like this. Stay away from the bear and you both get to live.

I've been a rather shy person my entire life who didn't put bullies in their place until one day I couldn't take it anymore from this man at work and I stood my ground with him and told him to never talk to me nor come near me, and I said standing tall, I was fierce, he knew I meant it, and he froze, I saw tears well up in his eyes, and he walked away and never bothered me again.
