you "needed" to strip the whole car down to the galvanized metal and put it on a rotisserie... and use glaserit90 primer

2 people would be 3 times more expensive on the labor cost. 1 person is only a 1/100th of the cost. only 1 person can "afford" to give free labor

it would be a big expense, but as I understand it, a couple coats of epoxy primer to seal would have prevented this is that correct? And I agree with you the car needs strip to metal.

In my experience epoxy can react the same. It’s possible it would have worked. I could have tested an area. Poly rarely reacts like this. I’m just lucky.

GM actually used what they called "dispersion lacquer" on some vehicles into the late 80's on some cars. Shit was a nightmare to try and repair you had to put all primer on in very light coats no matter what kind of primer you used.

Well that just sucks Matt. My shop policy is they all get stripped down to bare and what do I have coming... a 66 Mustang that another shop just painted and I get to correct the body work and prep it over the new paint. Say a prayer! LOL

That really blows man. I am sure you will be happy to see this one go. Could you have misted epoxy over it to seal it? Or is lacquer primer just a no-go?
@SYFGARAGE

It may have worked. But honestly I’ve only had poly react like this a few times before and wasn’t expecting this much of an issue. I r actually had epoxy react like this more often.

It may have helped. But It may have reacted the same way. This lacquer primer is so soft really nothing will help but stripping it.

Never never never prime and paint over old lacquer. I see people do this a lot. If you're lucky enough to make it past primer thee paint will get it. And thats not when you want to find out. Lacquer is unstable because it is not catalyzed. Solvents will attack it. If you do this, use waterbase primer. Otherwise strip it. It's worth the time.

darn it, i should have slid in there with a dollar swear jar before the prime up, i'd be rich as heck by now. lets hope when they paint it they use waterbourne base, thats about the best thing with waterbourne paint, it gives a good barrier. this is where the carpainter and pro painter are seperated, the pro can get it done when the sh1t hits the fan

I know in the past when I've had to do "questionable" jobs that I knew weren't the best practice I always put a coat or 2 of epoxy as a barrier and let it set up for a few days.
