This was my grandfather and the most amazing man I have ever known. He grew up in a time when you just did not pay someone to do a job, you just figured out a way to do it yourself. He started off jacking up the back of the car but switched to this layout because it worked better for him. He built the tractor from the ground up and used it for all kinds of things. You could attach a plow to the back of it and plow the garden, and a snow blade to the front to move snow. You can remove the car tire and a large saw blade would bolt on and we would cut wood with this same setup, and yes it was just a massive saw blade spinning at a high rate of speed so you had to be careful. He just came up with ways to get the job done. They may not always look good but you can bet they would work. I am so blessed to have been able to spend a lot of time with him. He was amazing.

Everything about that video rang home with me. I enjoyed the old guy doing the work, loved his tractor, the walnut shooter and the belt tighter. He started that baby right up. It worked pretty good too I sure do miss the old ways, we are in such a hurry to get things done anymore

Same set up except we used our 1946 Chevy pickup. Jacked up the right side rear, put the trough under the back wheel, put her in 3rd gear, let the clutch out, set the throttle and chucked in the walnuts. Hauled them to the barn and spread them out on the haymow floor for a couple months, then, stored them in BURLAP bags. Burlap, because they need air circulation around them

I can still remember, back in sixth grade, the youngsters coming to school with black hands from hand-hulling black walnuts. I'm 72, so you can see how long ago that was. And, I was raised up in eastern Kentucky, so what we wanted, we had to make, harvest and eat. And, afterward, he cuts the grass with that tractor.

I’m 54 but wish we could go back to the days when a man used his head instead of the internet to solve the issues of things he needed to do in life…. I so love watching these types of videos…. If only for a few minutes I can go back to when I was little and watching passed family members doing and talking about the simpler things and times. Great Video!

Man I'm jealous. Awesome idea. Worked 50 hrs in 4 days, have a yard full of nuts to pick up when I leave work this morning, wheel barrel them to the house and do it all by hand. I enjoy it though. I love to work and love being outdoors.

That's a hoot. One of my uncles had the same concept 40 years ago when I was a kid. He jacked up the rear corner on his ole chevy pickup and fed walnuts under the tire while my mom hit the gas. She'd get a little happy now and then with the gas pedal and sling nuts to the other end of the driveway though. What the heck, they had me to chase em down. hahahaha

I processed and dried 3600+ black walnuts. These were "non-floaters", so I assumed they would all be good. But after cracking about 1100 of them, I am finding that about 40% of them are no good, meaning the meat in them is dried up/shriveled and paper thin. This is kind of disappointing to me. This is my first time to process walnuts. Is this normal, or just a bad year for walnuts in southern Ohio?
