Hypatia was born in 350 BC according to some, and in 370 according to others. She was the daughter of a famous mathematician. She lived with her father in Alexandria, Egypt. His father, Theon, was one of the last scholars of Alexandria. He taught his daughter mathematics, philosophy, and astronomy himself at that time, when women were rarely able to receive an education. Hypatia, who was not content with the mathematics education she received from her father, was someone who got lost in the library for hours and tried to discover new ways of learning. In a short time, Hypatia hastened to review and critique many important works, including the work of the great geometer Apollonuius of Perge and Diophantus' Arithmetic. Of course, it was not enough for Hypatia to just criticize other researches. She soon began her own research. In the process, she invented a new type of astrolabe. She wasn't content with that, she developed a set of instruments to make her observations easier. As in many periods of history, science and art were considered as fields that men could be interested in. His scientific studies, the speeches he organized and the trainings he gave were slowly preparing the end of Hypatia.
