Japanese engines are normally well designed and trustworthy. Choke is with pushing the key in, you can hear if it works. The ball on the hose is for priming the carb and fuel pump, must be done in advance. Great find! 😀

ok i agree take the seats out of the boat to save money on a new captains chair go and look at a marine salvage company near where you live a lot of times you can get really nice captains chairs for pontoon boats and water craft at half the price. i would then go and look online for a larger motor or have a marine motor specialist repair the water keel on the bottom of the motor you have.. as for the rest of the seating and bench seats have them reapolstered its cheaper they will replace the foam inside as well. also look for some new gauges the reason why those gauges turned yellow is because there leaking 100% they are no longer water proof most of the things on that craft are just basic maintenace issues you got a killer deal 100% especially with that nice trailer.. good job and keep up the videos.

You lift the choke lever when starting and it creates high idle. It locks out forward and reverse gears. Likely i would dump the old gas and mix new 2 cycle oil in with the gas. Clean the carb and float bowl with spray gumout carb cleaner. Check the lower unit to replace the gear oil. You can easily buy the skeg and lower unit cover plate. Dont forget to change the impeller and check for water coming out the telltale.. a tiny stream of water telling you the impeller pump is working. Several neighbors and I all did our pontoon boats with only portable lawn chairs. Super easy to position for guests and to clean. It works great.
@dkruitz
4 жыл бұрын
Good luck with the project. Skeg is the fin on the bottom to protect the prop. Let the motor crank for a few seconds, no need to stop after just 1 second. Do the PM and clean the carb bowl, water pump impeller and lower unit oil. Looks like you got a runner! Then do the bearings or hubs.

Great find! I just restored a bow rider and am looking for a pontoon. You're going to have so much fun. The only regret I have is that I wish I'd just got my boat water worthy and went out and enjoyed it sooner. Instead I started in the spring and didn't take it out until almost the end of summer. Wish I would have done the restorat in the fall/after boating season. Also if your seats are horrible consider replacing them with outdoor furniture. It's much less expensive and I'm curious to see how it would look. And I think the poles may be for a Bimini top. You'll want one.

Ok, a few things. 1. The squeeze bulb by the motor is a primer ball. 3 to 4 squeezes to get the gas to the motor and prime it for starting 2. the lever next to the throttle is a choke lever. You use this to help on cold starts. 3. some of the pols are your nav light sticks.
@Manuel_Z_Kayaks
4 жыл бұрын
To start the boat... Squeeze primer bulb till its tight or you hear gas at the motor. Lift the flat lever next to throttle to disengage the shifter. While turning the key, press in on the key to choke the motor. It clicks but does nothing if it's not cranking so don't kick it before turning the key. Once you hear it crank stop pressing in on the key and just turn it. The thumb switch on the throttle is for raising and lowering the motor. When down it moves slower to adjust for trim. (raising and lowering the bow in motion) Hope this helps

Nice find! In my humble opinion, remove everything from the deck and start from scratch. That way you can plan the seating, the wiring for the sound system and the lighting the way you want it. Replace the motor with something that has a bit more grunt. I would paint the hull black and use various shades of grey (not 50) for the seating etc up top. And finally, lose the toilet. God designed a perfectly functioning one in the lake which you can use without anyone knowing your business!

The 40 hp is to small. It will cruise fine but hard on gas. 50hp to 70hp. The adjustable poles are for your deck and seat cover that protects everything from the sun and rain. They poles hold up the center of the cover for runoff. Get a new one made along with a new canopy cover. Give the transom a good inspection. If there is any damage, its better finding out now rather then on the water or after you hang a new motor from it. Add trim control for your outboard. When you have a few extra bodies it will help to level out.
