I bought Lenny's first record "Let Love Rule" when it first came out in the late 80s. He played all the instruments and the album had a heavy psychedelic vibe. He has his feet planted in funk and rock. Prince kept an eye on him before Lenny's first album and they eventually played live together.

Regarding the 7th screw being silver, from what I've seen in photographs, these guitars came with gold screws so it could be a Gibson error, however there are photographs that appear to show that for at least one concert, Lenny did have a chrome screw in there. I would guess that this was an error of Lennys guitar tech and that it was corrected, 99% of the photos of Lenny playing his V show it with a gold screw but there are photos from one gig he played where it appears to be chrome. So maybe it's been made to replicate that era?

I saw Lenny live on Saturday February 5th 1994 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Queensland, Australia. He opened with "Are you gonna go my way" with a huge feather boa and a beautiful Flying V. He was incredible live. During the song he leapt down into the crowd and ran all over the arena still playing his riffs and singing with a headset mic. He ran up and down the aisles and stairs and in and out of doors to appear elsewhere. It was insane. I was going to say "Hmm needs to play some Judas Priest on that" when you started playing it. Big question Austin have you ever come across the Gibson Limited Edition KK Downing Flying V and Glenn Tipton SG signature models. They were only sold as a set. That would be a cool find.1

Did you review an All American with the Fender tremolo? And do some reviews of the vintage Kalamazoo guitars, I have always been curious if they got Gibson parts or if they're some knock offs! Hey Hey, just seeing this episode now, I'm the guy that bought the "repaired headstock", but that was months ago & it was from the KISS guy right ??? Ram Parma is a huge collector. Now if were on the same page, I'm was extremely surprised when my #65 LK arrived with NO HEADSTOCK repair, it was a very very hairline finish crack of the paint,, woohoo !! Very pleased, the guy gave me a great deal thinking it had a headstock repair. I'm guessing Ram wasn't the original owner, Ram is a very successful doctor/surgeon. You know these LK Signature's hardcases' interiors came in white, to see your in the Maroon color I was a bit thrown off. Also, mine does have the '57 pups & no silver screw on my pickguard neither. Love to chat with you about our LK's... yours is the 1st one I seen since MINE, & mine was the 1st one I seen on 4 yrs as G.C. listed 1 for sale for $3500. guitar only... This video triggered a huge sequence of memories for me - I started playing guitar when I was 6, and that was 2001. I grew up with classic rock and metal, and i loved Lenny Kravitz at the time. one of his albums was one of the first five CDs i ever bought with my money (it was him laying in red paint holding a flying V, not sure what the album was). He's probably one of the reasons I got into guitar to begin with. I remember playing along to his version of American Woman in my room, picturing myself playing on stage. I remember seeing this guitar in my Guitar World magazine and being instantly enamoured by it (still untouchable too, hahah). This was a great throwback to my early beginnings as a guitarist, hahah.

the trembar does not have to be grounded as long as the bridge is grounded. it is just to make sure there is a ground path from the strings to the ground on the output jack. The strings, tuners, bridge and tremolo are all connected together so there should not be a grounding issue. Im sure that was intentional

@@brandonfairchild5340 I don't want to speak negatively about Gibson but the missing tremolo ground and Burstbuckers instead of '57 classics could easily slip by QC. Brazilian has a distinctive sweet smell and a dusty red hue to its dust while others will have either brown or purple hue. How to check? Scrape the fingerboard lightly with razor blade like you're cleaning it and look for dust and use your nose, or sometimes (if you're lucky) you can tell when cleaning the fingerboard with lighter fluid and looking at cloth for red hue

I'm starting to get the impression that these burst buckers Gibson is pushing are not remotely up to snuff. Back in May, I had a guitar assembled from a China-manufactured V kit. The guy who assembled it for me put traditional Gibson zebra buckers in. I have since changed my mind about keeping that guitar after having bought an Epiphone negative V from Canada, but those pickups are going into this Canadian-market guitar. They are immediately hot, even when you're playing clean. "American Woman" is definitely an awesome cover by Lenny, and you know it's good when people that were around when the Guess Who came out with the original are saying Lenny's cover is better. My favorite track of his is that title cut from *Are You Gonna Go My Way* you rocked when you drove it, Austin. He even strapped on one of those '67 models during the video shoot.

Wow, what a wild looking guitar, I didn't know it existed. But the tone and the looks are worlds apart, imho. After checking on Reverb to see if there are any on the market (December 30th, 2022) I found one in Paris... coincidentally this exact guitar (Nr. 089 of 125) with a €15K asking price. The seller states it's in "Mint" condition without mentioning the fact that there's a blemish on the headstock and the strap buttons have been replaced. And there are only 3 photos of the guitar, one of which is blurry, and no case candy. How is it even possible to shoot blurry pics nowadays?! I definitely expect more from someone selling a guitar of this caliber... and asking price. No way I'd ever spend that kind of money based on a shoddy Reverb ad like that. And based on its tone, it might even be fake.

Pickup preferences can become a deep, deep rabbit hole. For years I'd spent tons of time and money swapping pickups looking for that perfect set. At the time I was playing through a Fender Twin Reverb I purchased new back in 1976, so we are talking Decades of trying different pickups. Finally I found what I thought was the perfect pickups. Then 3 years ago I purchased a vintage Marshall Plexi and none of my pickups sounded the way I'd hoped with the different amp. The result is I've ended up switching all my pickups back to stock Fender or Gibson pickups and am again pleased with the tone. I think it is true what they say, you can plug a $hit guitar/pickup into a Marshall and it sounds great!

I am not flying V fan, but, i would love that color combo on an SG style with mirrored gold batwing pickguard.

I could be wrong, but it sure looks to me like the guitar has been re-fretted, and they weren’t gentle when they pulled the original frets, lots of chipping on each side of the fret that can’t really happen from installing them. Appears to be some apprentice marks around the frets too, but that could just be Gibson for ya.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing during the closeups on the fretboard... oof.

Yeah, I mean I guess they could have messed up at the factory and put the wrong frets in and then pulled them or something, but the finish also looked off to me, weird orange peel and zero checking or dents at all. My guess would be someone sprayed extra clear over the whole thing to cover up scratches and small dings. I could be completely wrong though.

Best tones I've heard you get in a while, esp from 17:50. Would sound great through the high treble channel of a Plexi.

sometimes, when i see trogly saying "i'm probably gonna keep this one", I feel that he's not completely satisfied with the decision... it's more like "oh darn it! this thing is REALLY pretty... aw... there goes my 10 grand I was hoping to cash with the sale". But happy anyways for the acquisition. An just in time for Christmas. Happy Holidays, Trogly. :))

Are you gonna go my way, mmmmmmmm. I love seeing Craig use that 50s Les Paul custom with the staple p90 in the neck. So cool

Love the videos. I saw a set that I wish I had the money to use your program to document these. I found a fender custom shop set on Reverb. This is the title: 1995 Fender Custom Shop Korina Doubleneck Stratocaster Telecaster SET of 3 (ONE OFF) They are gorgeous

I wasn’t ever a Lenny Kravitz fan, but that finish is awesome! I never even knew they made an LK signature V

Looks pretty similar to what I do on a lot of race bikes paint jobs with a pearl over black.
