id fish more south in the "true lagoon" area where theres wind-blown tides vs actual tide(launch out of beacon 42 and head east. that area is a bit easier and i personally think theres more redfish there than the more northern parts of the lagoon where theres tidal flow.if you want to soak baits go to haulover canal and soak big chunks for the resident bulls
@AbenzFishing

Next time I will, I actually noticed it was more productive farther south in the lagoon towards end of the trip. Also way less predation on the reds and trout. The dolphin weren’t nearly as rampant.
@rbuzaki

as for the bigger trout, you won't find the true gators with the schoolies. unless theyre spawning theyre solo hunters, before I found my few 30"+ trout honeyholes I would get mid 20s to 30" trout with the mid 20s redfish, find the mid slot reds and toss 5" paddletails or topwaters at first light and work them slowly.

@@AbenzFishing depends on where you go, some of those south lagoon/northern irl dolphin will follow you even if you move with the big motor. But from personal experience you get more shots at bulls randomly on the flats/bars if you fish south of the oak hill area. Now the northern area like gaines island/orange island areas known for gators but theyre smart. I only would get on them tossing big topwaters way before it was even first light due to the fishing pressure.

Mosquito Lagoon the most famous flats in Florida? Come on man! More famous than the Key West Flats, Islamorada Flats, Biscayne Bay, flamingo… Come on man.
@AbenzFishing
8 ай бұрын
I mean, a lot of it is personal preference. I’d argue that mosquito is easily as popular and sought after for flats fishing as those destinations you mentioned. It’s also extremely historically significant. If you look up Floridas famous flats it’s consistently mentioned as a top destination. Cheers.

before the grass died off, the southern lagoon area was known as the redfish capital(over louisiana) due to how unique it is(the mosquito lagoon is one of 2 areas where redfish live where they spawn). its a different fishery with the grass die off and the fish kills that killed off most of those resident fish but its coming back slowly.
