Brodie that speech was awesome! We were so excited and proud to see and share that you spoke at CVHS! I sure wish you were available to speak to my son's CVHS Class of 2015! What you said hit home on so many levels that we have tried to convey to him and I know hearing it from you would have even been better (I did send him the link to this just now. :) ) It goes without saying, you are one of the best and we will continue to always follow and support you in all that you do!

Great speech!! My niece is a High School Senior. She was asked about college a year ago and I could see anxiety. I told my niece, "This is going to happen, and you want to have input, or you won't like the result. I can't read your mind. Neither can your parents, Grandma, Grandpa, or anyone else. (Blank,) we just want to know what you like so this can all work better for you." My niece is intelligent and getting invitations to apply to colleges. It's stressful.

My #11 would be "the person who knows what is best for you is you." There are all kinds of guidance counsellors, teachers, coaches, and others with seemingly good intentions and that will steer you the wrong way if you're not careful. Some of the biggest mistakes that I've made in life have come when I listened to those people because I thought they knew better. I had to learn the hard way to ignore those people and follow my own path.

One piece of advice that I've always given - rarely followed - is for young men and women to pick up a trade or workskill before they go to college. For one thing, these decisions you make kinda lead you where you want to go in academics. Second, they will always be there for you as a fallback when your chosen industry slumps - and it will - so you can fix cars or weld instead of flip burgers (which itself won't be a thing much longer either)...As it happens, we already have coffee shops filled up with "business majors!" who can't find a job. Why? It's a generic degree, not grounded in anything. America is retooling for manufacturing and production. I know for a fact that anybody willing to put the time and effort into it can get trained in CNC fabrication, 3-D printing, plastic injection moulding, or other type of good paying industrial skill jobs - which are mostly automated and tech based as it is - and do it without cost, provided you know where to look for the programs...Take it from a Boomer. Add more layers to yourself. Life is a lot easier when you have a bigger toolbox...

As a recently retired 45 year career engineer and hiring manager I 100% agree with your advice. I would always prefer someone with real skills in addition to a degree. One caveat. Don’t let life box you in while gaining your skills and going to college. It’s a lot harder to pursue a degree if married with kids and financial obligations. Be mindful of your exposure to life choices that can limit your flexibility. If you have a backup skill set and a degree by 25 yo, you will be fine.

@@4randosutube Indeed, and one thing I didn't mention was the pay-as-you-go option that you get from being skilled. Student loan debt is THE most crippling thing you can take on in your upstart years. It's hard enough buying a car or pickup to get around, but that added on top of these parasitical loans is akin to trying to run a marathon with a python wrapped around you...

Hear you on #10. I once had two people reporting to me, one from Stanford and one from Chico. I had to keep reminding the Chico grad that “nobody cared” about that, but that she brought an equal set of tools to the job. Fortunately the Stanford grad was raised right and if she ever felt superior, kept it to herself.

I think it would be awesome if you could talk to students at San Lorenzo unified school district, they have great programs that prepare students for media vocations and they don't have enough perspectives in sports media. I think you could make a massive difference there even though they have rivals to Castro valley lol.

Constructive criticism on the visual > which is more about prefs that some may actually be drawn to. The flashing audio lights...a distraction....too gimmicky & not needed > keep ppl focused on your expression/emotions. You're a fantastic Presenter Brodie....no need for the audio rack in view > heck... even Miles Burris whose just getting started out with his yt... although VERY bare bones room visual...at least it keeps the focus where it shows be...on the Presenter > if you haven't seen his vids yet... definitely check it out.... especially the upload he just did on Unpacking.... talk about raw emotions....good on him for putting that out there > not unlike your recent emotional farewell bids👍
