It's not that much of a big deal. I am a retired police officer and I remember tons of people living in there car. Someone overdosed one day and no one checked on them. We had to start checking after that. Just make sure you park somewhere safe.

Another piece of advice, NEVER leave your belongings in the passenger seat, that is a great reason for criminals to try to steal from the car, and something that can help you a lot is secure the doors with the safety belt, so no one can open the doors. doors. take care of yourself

I live in fear of 'the knock'! So far, so good. I try to park in parking lots with other cars, so I don't stand out. And leave my front seat looking like it's 'just a car'. My biggest problem with stealth camping is I SNORE!!! lol! Not all the time, but I always worry someone is going to walk by and hear me snoring and knock. lol!
@justrowan
8 ай бұрын
I don’t think I snore but it’s hard to tell because I’m asleep lol maybe I was that night tho! I usually keep the front seats clean but I remember I was tired and just found a big parking lot and parked. Too tired and too comfortable and I learned from it! Stay safe and I hope you stay knock free!

@@debralangdon9546 Cpaps can be powered by battery. Im in Australia 🇦🇺 and use a lithium battery to charge mine (Resmed 10) when camping off grid. It won’t work if you have heated tubing but will if you don’t. You can also get 12volt leads to run from your cigarette lighter point (if you have one). Google should have answers for you. Happy trails! 😊

You were talking about where you go to shower, so just wanted to let you know that you can get a "day pass" at State Parks for camping. We have multiple State Parks here where the day pass is like $4 or $7 for the day. Then you can go into the park and; take a shower, power up your electronics, fill up your water, use the restrooms, dump your trash and sewage, go to the lake, go for a swim, go hiking, ride your bicycle, sit out in nature and enjoy the day on the cheap. Thank you for your videos I'm getting a lot of great ideas.

My son is in law enforcement, so I know I'm biased positively towards police, but with that said it really is their business to know what's going on in their area. They will probably be watching after you, not in a bad way, but because you are a woman alone. If I was to pick the thing I'm most freaked out about (with possibly living in my SUV) is THE KNOCK. There ARE cops out there that are aggressive. I hear about some of my son's encounters and WHEN he meets aggression he HAS TO communicate differently. The majority of his encounters are polite and pleasant. Adam takes the "serve and protect" seriously and has changed numerous tires on I-5 for people who would endanger themselves if they tried to do it.

I live in my CamperVan 3 1/2 months through the winter season. If it’s after dark I never respond to a knock on the door. If it’s a police officer, they should understand the situation that you don’t know who’s out there. If it’s not legal to park somewhere, it would be posted, if it’s not posted legally they cannot ticket you. Showers: planet fitness is approximately $10 a month., you can use it as often as you please you can get a workout before your shower and planet fitness is throughout the US so no matter where you travel your membership will be good.

Hi Rowan, I’m binge watching your videos. You’re so sweet & your laugh is amazing. I don’t camp anywhere anymore bc I have medical issues with my back, but if I were 20 years younger I’d probably be doing what you’re doing. I’m a widow of 24 years. Hubs had massive heart attack and the A hole landlord raised the rent up by $60/month, so I stored my furniture and things and boarded my dog & I bought a tent and supplies to stay at the camp ground till I could figure out what I was going to do.

I thought that too but then again I thought maybe they had encountered someone before in a car deceased, OD'd (thus could use Narcan if in time), or held against their will...so that's why they check. Usually there's a reason why people do stuff...it's usually not just to bother people. I remember when I was a young lady in the back seat of a car with my boyfriend at the time doing you-can-guess...knock at the door by police and told us both to get out. We both weren't moving much and were quiet as a mouse but they said they check because I could have been being raped or held against my will...so it's for a good reason but at the time we weren't happy about it!

Rowan you don’t know me but I have been feeling for a while that I should offer my place for you to take a little break if you come to Ohio. I’m sure you have tons of friends and offers but just the same your welcome here. I feel safe in saying I think your a real nice person you’re kinda doing what I wanted to do after my mom passed. I wanted to buy a tiny home on wheels and do a little traveling. Go see my sister in Chapel Hill area and hang out with her for a while but it didn’t happen that way. I needed another card so I bought a Prius V which I still have and I think that I am going to use it to do a little down at the lake for a couple of weeks that I know of around here with my dog Sassy. I went to a church garage sale last year and I bought a brand new one room pop-up tent for $25 in a really nice thick pad to sleep on and I already have a nice big huge piece of foam. I am inspired by you girl. My daughter is 40 years old and she said to me mom I I am in support of you doing whatever you want with your life and enjoy your life this decade. She just wants me to be happy and make my dreams come true because I got sick with chronic 15 years ago in fibromyalgia last year believe it or not, I got prayed for in April and I got delivered from the fibromyalgia. How fabulous after 30 some years. I have so many ideas about what I want to do with my life Suches go back, and re-learn restorative yoga become certified so I can teach it to other people that I’ve been through draw trauma and or working at a desk all day and need to unwind. I also find it necessary to learn therapeutic hypnosis, and Learning and then teaching exercise dance for older women, and probably meant to to strengthen their pelvic girdle. It’s becoming quite a problem for older ladies, and I think that I should help. I live in an apartment and I try to grow herbs and a little my own veggies. However, the water here is so incredibly hard. I’m gonna have to find some springs to water my plants with until I can find another place to live closer to my daughter who is now buying a house close to a lake. Oh, and by the way my apartment is it friendly I guess as you know, I said I have a dog and says Sassys cool with other dogs. DoorDash is pretty strong in these areas. Specially Columbus, Ohio, which is in that far for me. Nancy in Ohio

True that. Here in Texas, the YMCA charges $10 for a day pass where you can use all facilities including showers. It's cheaper than truck stop showers. There's also showers at the beaches in Florida. Otherwise, a national gym membership is an option. I have used the Y in some places, but refuse to pay the annual membership because it's pricey. I don't use the Y very often.

My knock (from police on patrol) came while I was parked overnight at a trailhead that I was planning on starting when it got light. Didn’t open door for safety reasons, but rolled window down a crack to speak to the officers. They were very nice and just wanted to check to see if someone was having trouble. They told me they would let the new shift coming on that I was I there so I wouldn’t be bothered again and said they’d keep an eye out for me. Never asked for ID…but they were able to see in one window…they saw all my gear and were satisfied, I suppose, that I was doing what I said I was. I have no problem showing my ID if asked…happy to cooperate since it builds rapport. Makes everyone’s life easier and more pleasant. The place wasn’t posted as no overnight parking, and I have no murder warrants LOL. I do have one question…do you carry any weapons or have a bear spray canister ready if things are dodgy?

Thanks for showing us how you make your stealth window covers. Great idea. We have a campervan. We don't live in it. It is our only vehicle that we drive around in and go on vacation in, in Europe. It was professionally built but over time things break. We have those pre-made window covers that you pull out that close with a magnet. They are really made of paper & both have broken inside the divers and passangers doors windows. They cost a fortune to replace. I am going to make window covers using your method. Thanks so much for the tip. I was born and lived most of my life in the S Hemisphere. In my country of origin it is very very dangerous. The crime is rife. It took me a long time to get used to living in Europe & sleeping at truck stops, while travelling to other countries. There is no way one can live in a car or van in my country of origin. We live behind walls with security up to our teeth. Nobody parks their cars outside as they will get stolen. It is very important that you fixed up your window covers, etc. I would buy a big can of pepper spray as a deterant just incase. It might give you time to run in an emergency. Let's say it wasn't the police knocking, but criminals? I don't know if you could buy a very loud alarm which you could set off if anyone breaks a window, to give the criminal a huge fright and give you time to flee. The thing that you want is to get as many deterants as possible that put a seperation between you and them. Safety first. I am glad to hear it was just the police checking up to see if you were okay. They don't know if someone is in the car deceased, etc. Stay safe and vigilant. Hugs 💕🤗

@@BrianWaller-qe7gr why is $24 annually too much to pay for good hygiene & good mental health?

It’s a bit tricky to get the size right but I’ve found if they are a slightly oversized they stay in well. I hope you got yours to work out!

WeatherTech has already made ones. I can get a whole "set" (for all the windows) for my SUV for about $150. A little on the expensive side but really good and will most likely last a lot longer than the homemade ones, IMHO.

Great to see you again Rowan 😊 I have super long hair and only wash it every week or so too.... mind you I have not used store bought shampoo or conditioner in over 10yrs only natural shampoo/cond bars. Glad the knock didnt startle you... only reminded you to buckle down on your stealth mode. Will you get new pretty material for your new window cover? Another fantastic and informative video so thankyou. Take care 😊🍓🌱🌻

You get it!! My hair would be really dry if I washed it more than once a week, although I certainly don’t mind showering more frequently. I made a shampoo one time but couldn’t figure out the conditioner bar. Do you have a kind you like? Maybe I can try it out! Good to see you too Sage! 🍓🤗

@@justrowan yep i get it. My hair would be dry too if I washed it more often and only using chemical free natural products and letting it dry naturally too it doesn't need washing more often. My hair is almost to my butt and very healthy. I use shampoo and conditioner bars handmade by a lady in Tasmania at the bottom of Australia. She has a website and her business is called Beauty and the Bees. She started making natural soap as her son had eczema and her business grew from there. Her bars are around $20 Australian dollars each but last months. There's another shampoo bar that Lady Bugout uses (a KZitem van lifer) called J.R Liggets Old Fashioned Shampoo bar which I think is England based. Its good too but I personally prefer the Australian one 😊 I hope this helps 😊🍓

Oh man I was wayyyyyy too OCD with my window inserts 🤦♀️ I spent hours upon hours making sure they were all perfect. I know myself and I knew I couldn’t handle it if I made a mistake, had a wrinkle, or stitch out of place 🤷♀️. I could picture myself trapped in my van, at night or on a rainy day, and be tortured and tormented by it 🙇♀️.
