The intention was to share a personal story that could resonate with others who have faced challenges in their own lives. This is so true! When I listened to this young woman, all I heard were control issues. It was as if she wanted that last bit of control over him. I couldn't help but suspect that the lack of a marriage was simple the excuse she used to leave him. It could be that he was such a good guy that the lack of marriage was the only reason she had to achieve her goal. Yes you are right. The reason I see it this way is because my wife has had nearly complete control over all of our 44 years of marriage and I have suddenly come to realize what has been going on and I'm now out of time. Perhaps I'm a little too sensitive about these things.

My son's mom left us when my son was 16 months old and I raised him by myself. Drugs and alcohol were more important to her than our son and she left with another guy. At times raising my my son was difficult. However, i found raising my son by myself relatively easy. I had no family to help me, nor did I ask for help from anyone. Im proud of the son i raised. Now hes 39, married, with 2 sons. My daughter inlaw is an American filipina, so my grandsons are half Filipino. They definitely have the Filipino nose too. 🤣🤣 i really enjoyed raising my son. The only problem was, American women tend not to want a single dad at all. They want nothing to do with some other woman's kids. God bless my son.

Jesus said, he prefers couples to be equally yoked in faith and Christian belief. He also states that living together and having intimate relations outside the bonds of marriage (fornicating) is a sin. It always baffles me how uneducated and misled people are concerning the principles and teaching of Christ in the Bible. When we deviate away from the principle truths of scripture, we in essence turn our back on the grace that God has offered us. We should strive to be Christ-like in our words, behavior and actions, so God will want to bless us for our faithfulness to him. Unfortunately, too many Christians still lead lives that are not pleasing to our Father in Heaven. You can't live two different lifestyles and expect God to be pleased.

I would like to hear the other side of this story. It seems very convenient that a piece of paper is the only thing that it takes to walk away from a 21 year relationship. Don't forget, he stayed as well for the 21 years and was surprised when she chose to walk away after all that time....

Should it not be about keeping a relationship going instead of seeking a piece of paper as proof of happiness? Was Tom Brady's wife truly happy??? She had the piece of paper? A long distance relationship? I am quite confused by this conversation Shay I have to say. She talks a lot about love, but this 21 year relationship sounds more like a co dependant type relationship. Dear Shay, Mary's situation is easy to understand when you understand both nations' ideas. Mary has been raised in a Catholic nation, no divorce, only annulment, and very expensive. Her Ex lives in a nation where a man learns to keep the government, and church, out of the personal life. The Ex loses nearly everything when papers are signed, by both, the government and the Church. It is understandable why Mary wants to celebrate her marriage, a sacrament by Catholic regulations. After 21 years together, it seems wrong that she wants paperwork signed. Love is not something that needs to be signed on papers. You can still celebrate your anniversary. You can celebrate your life together with your friends and family without papers. I have been raised in the USA, as an Irish Catholic individual. Here, just the mention of marriage is an unfair situation, especially if the man is good with money. You presented us with a sad situation. God's Blessings, Irish

I honestly don't understand why marriage is so important. Would I rather be in a committed relationship with someone who is dedicated and devoted to me? Absolutely. Would I want to be in a marriage with someone who is focused more so on the me instead of we? So many marriages end up in divorce, So many great relationships go the distance. Why involve the courts, the banks, the lawyers? It is a great concept but it doesn't mean anything. The more weight a person puts on the concept of marriage, the more likely it is to fail because it is based on predefined ideas, wishful thinking, and fairy tales. The whole concept of marriage is antiquated at this point in time. It was created when women were disempowered. I say this as a man who is not a simp, feminist, etc. So not only is it a legal entity but it is often overseen by religious entities. That is the 2nd strike for me. No need to involve other men in my relationship (the government or the church). Starting to see a trend? Oh yeah, I can only hope and pray that Mary stops saying 'You Know?' The 3 cardinal sins of public speaking are: 'like, um and you know.' Terrible terrible words.

@@maryloucagas553 It's all good Mary, my feedback is never based on malice, just good old fashioned honesty (as I see it), nothing more. I can say a few words of your language, but probably in a pretty poor fashion, but then again, I am not going on KZitem and speaking Tagalog or Visaya to an audience from another country. If you were catering to a Filipino audience, you would speak in your native tongue. But, since we are here, my feedback hopefully will be helpful to those of you who are catering to us English speakers because we all know that is where the money is. Back to the topic at hand, those filler words send subconscious messages that you (and anyone saying them) are not sure about what you are saying. Please don't take the word 'sin' literally, it is only a 'sin' in public speaking, nothing more. Native English speakers will pick up on it over time and start to tune out. You obviously bring a lot of love and pain forward. Keep bringing your magic.

@@maryloucagas553 If you are asking me an honest question then my honest answer would be that you left because you finally got in touch with reality vs your wishful thinking. Hopefully you also got sick and tired of being sick and tired and started saying 'I want to live!'. You are always #1, period. If your relationship doesn't support you being your greatest #1-ness, then it has to end. Also, if you don't fill your cup first and foremost, there won't be anything to offer another person. It is ok to be self-ish, just not selfish. After you comes your relationship at #2. Then, your children #3. Than your family at #4. Your relationship partner will be there long after the kids have grown up and gone, so that needs the most love and attention - tough to do that I know. It also shows your kids how to have a balanced and healthy relationship for when they get in one. Ok, enough wisdom for today. Disclaimer: all statements are personal opinion, not facts. When things are difficult in your life helping someone is the best way to help yourself. I think everyone wants intimacy however there are so many obstacles today that make it difficult for people to make true commitments. It can still occur but knowing what you want is the first step and then being able to communicate this to someone and come to a true understanding comes next. Good interview Shay👍There is a lot of married couples in the world that don't love each other anymore . But still living together as a couple. If "she had the love of her life" I don't understand why did she leave him. But of course she explained why she did it. Love is more important than a ring on the finger . Best wishes from Norway.Stay safe and happy!!😊

I was in one of my relationships for 8 years without marriage. Neither one of cared because when I met her everyone around her was married and cheating and getting divorced. It was so bad that her best friend's husband divorce him while her mom divorced her Dad. To make matters worse the reason was her mother was having an affair with Her best friend's husband. It sounds like a K drama. The truth was that both marriages were terrible. Like Mary her father beat her mother. Then she found out that her best friend was truly a lesbiian and had numerous girlfriends and her husband did not know why there was no romance or intimacy in the marriage. Stay please tell Mary that she feels she is not entitled to wealth her husband has built but truly it is wealth that the two of them built while together. She sacrificed 21 years of her youth and highest value years for one man and he did not respect her wish for marriage. Sadly my guess is she does not know his life in the USA for the 11 months of the year. Legally in the Philippines she is entitled to one half of all wages and property bought together during their relationship which is well documented for 21 years and when he returned every year as an OFW he came back to share her bed. I have no clue why she is a battered woman as I saw her interviewed on other channels and I saw numerous men who were interested thinking she would be a great girlfriend then wife. That included myself. But she must be careful not to let the sins of one man in the past change the manner in which a quality relationship develops. But in the beginning she should say she is looking to marry and wants a serious relationship. In 6-9 months two people know if they should become engaged and plan a wedding. As for the money and property as well as material items she needs to set up a consult with Gracie who is a family law attorney that appears on The Filipina Peas channel. Mary according to Philippines law had a common law. marriage and finances would be treated in this manner. Mary should treat the division of assets as if half is hers because legally it is. Mary should watch this video that Gracie did with The Filipina Pea so she stops thinking morally she wants a clean break because legally under Sections 747 and 748 she is arguably entitled to half of his wages and half of the property they acquired together. It does not matter if someone made most of the money. Part of your job, which is more important, is raising the kids and taking care of the family unit and home for 21 years. If You would Like I will send you the link to this video if it can be done in this video. I say that because most Filipinas and Expat vloggers disable the link option on KZitem because of what people do wrongly. It would be in her best interests to watch the video and then set up a 1-2 hour appointment with Gracie to discuss everything. This is what is legally and morally right for Mary. It will also let her sever all ties with her ex because right now her life is financially intertwined with her ex and in doing so she hasn't let go of all tied which will ultimately lead to failure with future relationships. Her past is not in the past. Again, please contact me if you want a link to this video as Gracie has been on Pea's channel 4 or 5 times and she needs to watch the right video. I personally have read the Philippines law and review the case law from the Philippines Supreme Court to verify Gracie's legally opinion and you d everything she said was true. Yes, the American lawyer in me was curious. After 21 years she eclipses the 5 years other court says what makes a relationship actually like a marriage because that is how it functions and worked financially. Please tell Mary that what I am saying and what is the law in the Philippines is just, legal and morally right. Ingat.

Nice conversation, quite good arguments. This woman, this speech is a truly tribute to love. In western world a woman like this would be badmouthing men. I really like her attitude especially for two reasons. First, the experience made her stronger and overcame her submission. Secondly she still believe in love as a sublime plenitude. I´d say yes to marriage after some years, time enough to be sure of her honesty and transparency.

Marry before Sex! but I am Christian so, it's something you do waiting for the person you Marry some day.. it's not easy but at least some day I can say I waited, for her and the struggles is also for her, but you are suppose to loose your self become one with your Spouse, it's not to Live it's to Die, you no longer live but you both live as one, you put your Spouse's needs above your own, for a Man you treat your Wife as your own Body anyways sorry been waiting a long time lmbo!!

So, first of all, I want to commend your brave friend for being willing to make a very difficult choice for herself after so many long years of marriage. Not everyone can find the strength to do this, and it is not an easy choice or step to make. However, as a Westerner who comes from what we call a very dysfunctional family, I have learned through many many years of therapy that it is not healthy to always do everything for or to only think about other people. When you do this too much this means that somewhere in your developmental cycle (probably as a child), you learned not to think about yourself at all, because not getting your needs met as a child was too painful to bear. Your friend would do herself a lot of favors if she would start reading and watching videos on KZitem about healthy human psychology. My guess is that she comes from a narcissistic family structure, so videos on this subject would do her a world of good in understanding where she comes from, and why things in her world work the way that they do. It’s a long difficult journey, back to a healthy state of mind, but it is absolutely worth it in the end.

She chose wrong from the beginning. She should have gotten involved with someone who shares the same value as her. If you want marriage, get into a relationship with someone who values marriage. All I hear from her is poor decision making. Why was she not married before she had a child? She's not morally traditional. I really hope this western culture does not rub off on the East.

@MaryinthePhilippines this is why "dating" is absolute horse shit. Because women don't know how to choose, they choose based on emotions, which is not beneficial to life's purpose. And this is why it's important for families to decide who someone marry. Cause when women choose to do anything for their "heart" as you said, it only ends in tragedy. I hope you use your experience to teach young women the right things, which is family values and being obedient to parents and mostly having God involved in your life (hopefully you do).
