This is about my son Robert Blackburn . Im saddened that this happened to him. Im proud that he is quick and intellegent (way way smarter than the average bear) and has delt with the loss of his eye extremely well. His expert/professional welding, fishing, hunting skills were dampened for just an amazing short time. Roberts desire and perseverance at perfection paid off....Thank you God... Ps. Thank you God...I love my son

So I joined the marines with both eyes and left there with only one so I know the vibes of being reduced in vision and how much of a challenge activities like bow fishing can actually be especially if you loos your dominant eye gotta say max respect for never quitting or playing victim making light of a serious injury and living like a boss keep on trucking man 💪

I live about 1000 miles away from you boys and I can tell you his injury has had an impact on all of us fishing here in Indiana. 99% of us are all running slides now. We shoot a lot of clean lakes, shooting buffs in 4 to 8 feet of water, going to slides wasnt hard and we still kill just as many fish as TTB. Glad Robert is still killing it. Said many prayers for him! Keep up the awesome videos. You boys are the best in the business.

I really appreciated your video. I am older now but for years hammered the fish bow fishing. Due to a sagging cornea (Lasik in the 90s) I am on my second cornea transplant. The first one failed at 8 months, a freak accident. It takes a full year to heal. I am now at 5 plus months and they have sewn my eyelids mostly together in order to protect the cornea. I have gone thru 8 eye operations in the last 13 months and am pretty tired of them. I can see a tiny bit sometimes out of the upper right side of my left eye. it has really messed my depth perception up and my balance as well. Hopefully in 3-4 months, they will open my eye more. I still shoot, just a lot lighter bow now. I make my own selfbows still, now 65 years old and I refuse to quit. But the challenges are pretty big and can really depress you but it still comes back to a mind set. So I am pretty much blind on the left side and crippled on the right side LOL. I do miss the bowfishing but it is what it is. Heck, I would fall out of the boat now more than I would be able to stand to shoot! Don't ever give up. Jerry

As another fellow eye accident injury person to another I know the feeling. In 2015 I had a work injury then caused permanent eye sight in my right dominant eye as well. It took some time to get things figured back out on shooting my bow and shot gun and even driving my vehicle or setting a cup of water down on my table at home but man oh man I know the struggle. Glad your alright and still shooting fish left and right on these videos. You guys do a awesome job and shooting and filming!

Thank you for this video. Last season my friend and I started shooting tttb and I noticed 4-6 times my line got wrapped around my cable roller, which fortunately only caused damage to my cables. I thought it was just me accidentally shooting with too much slack in my line. Now thanks to this video and a slow motion test y’all provided I know now that a safety slide is the best way to go.

just wanted to add, Dan Fitzgerald lost his dominant eye to a coat hanger when he was a kid. he was right handed and shot bows right handed plus, he shot instinctive and still does. He shoots just about everything from a longbow to compounds instinctive and brother he is bad news to whatever he shoots at. He has had a ton of bow hunting videos over the years. it is all about overcoming the challenges laid out before us. congrats to what you have done so far.

What happens if you don't hit the button on the reel and release an arrow with a slide? I've always shot tied to the back but have always worried about snap backs, never used slides because until recently nobody used slides with spincast setups, only with retriever reels.

Edit: Okay so I heard what he said now and see what he was talking about that is why i think using a glove is a little better then Bow Finger Guards. That happening is so low compared to your nock getting stuck in the draw line and hitting you. --- So I'm a bit confused about what happened with the line. So I figured I'd assume what I think he said happen was the line from reel was wrapped somehow around the draw string, so when he pulled the arrow back, he didn't see the reel line wrapped on the draw string so when he fired it and whipped back on him. Which caused this to happen.
