Impressed by people who can do this type of thing, but I sure do like GTXs. I had a '70 GTX and a '70 Road Runner. Both were great cars.

I love it! I will look forward to you getting on it and starting this project. It will be a lot of work and you’ll need a lot of wire and gas, but you can do it! Btw I think Chrysler had three different k-frames-6 cyl., V8 and Hemi, but you are definitely covered using the original k-frame from the GTX.

This has the BB K member which is awesome, but they aren't giving 440s away anymore. The rest of it will be a lot of work, but fun.

Interesting project, one way to go would be to save it as a GTX, sell or trade for a 1969 Dodge Charger and clone your daytona. You mentioned you can build cars for a fraction of what they are selling for and it's a real GTX which would be cool to see on the street.

This car is stripped pretty clean and the fenders and doors are rough. To restore it would cost me over $30k and then it would still be worth half as much as a Charger. I have no attachment to a GTX or a '69 Road Runner in general so I have no interest in restoring this one to get a below average Charger just to have to restore that car too. Nice GTX is $30-40k. A nice Charger is $75k.

@@QuickSpeedShopbut thing is tho , when your done you’ll have a nice Daytona that’s only worth 1/4 to 1/2 of what a real one is. I’ll support whatever way you go but I’m a Road Runner/GTX fan and yes, they do have sentimental value to me. My brother had a 69 with B5 blue, 4spd, etc and I’ve had a couple of em. There’s few GTXs left around and they are pulling good money. My question is that if I came across a decent 69 Charger for ya before you get deep into this, would you consider a swap? I’ve been trying to find a GTX for 25-30 years but the couple I did find were at times when life got in the way. I’ll support you anyway you go but it would be nice to keep an original GTX as an original GTX if possible. The other thing is I’ve been building and restoring since the late 70s and was a painter for 40 years and I just don’t think it’s possible to build one of these for $20k unless you find a phenomenal deal on parts so I’m gonna hang around to hopefully see the results God willing cause my days are getting much shorter than they used to be. No matter what tho buddy, nice find and I know it will turn out well if that’s what happens. My buddies dad used to work for Sox & Martin and did a lot of their mechanical work for em and now my buddy works for a guy that has a couple of their original cars and just got done restoring one of the Cuda’s they had and it’s phenomenal!! Anyhows, good luck and we’ll see where this leads

It looks like a lot of work, but you'll end up with something you want in the end. That's what is important. I wish I knew back in high school in the early seventies what these cars would be worth now. I had two friends that were brothers, one had a Daytona and the other had a Superbird. Both got sold for scrap price in the mid seventies in running condition. I bought a 1972 Barracuda brand new for $3,600 and traded it in on a new car two years later. Should have just put it in the barn!! I look forward to the build!!

@@QuickSpeedShop One thing I noticed and thought I'd mention and you may already be aware of,you said that car had a Z bar mount for a manual transmission. A GTX with a 440 4 speed would come with a Dana 60 rear axle and I see your car has a 8 3/4" rear.So thats been changed, or either somebody put a stick shift in an automatic car. All the more reason to build your Daytona because its been stripped of all the good stuff.

The front frames rails are AMD and came with the mount. The GTX was a floor shift auto car as far as I know.

The frame rail work looks scary, Ft. & Rear. Ya gotta completely strip the "coatings), off the bottom and fenderwells, see what you have. I saw and commented on the other video, but it looks worse outside. I think you did OK on the price. Personally, I prefer the 57 project! Your gonna be way more than 20k into this, just no way around it, sorry. Keep at it
@QuickSpeedShop

There is no coating on anything anymore. The front rails and floors are all brand new AMD panels with poor welds, easily fixable. The rears I'll just replace then it will be all new.

I do this same kind of stuff. I have thought of this but the inner structure in the back of the roof is different from the charger. How are you going to do that? I know they make a couple of pieces for the back roof area but is it enough to completely convert a B roof to a Charger roof? I personally would have looked for a really rotted out Charger that at least had a useable roof structure to start with. I have seen them go for the same price that you paid but they sell fast.

I'm not restoring a Charger and trying to make it perfect. The rear window area needs the areo plug anyway for the Daytona so I will just make it work as I go along. I don't know where you live, but the cheapest, completely junk Chargers I see, all far from me, are at least $12000 and they don't come with new front frame rails, floor pans, and paper work like this car did.

You will be surprised that this dream will cost you $25,000 to $35,000 at a minimum plus a lot of your time. What your starting with is questionable. I doubt you can sell it for what you have in it. Been there and done the same. Sit down and make a detailed list of what you are going to buy and don't forget the nickle dime pieces and all the shop needs. My advice sell it and work on the clone truck.

Well, $5500 for the car, $1000 for a junkyard 440/trans, $3000 for Charger sheet metal, $3000 for Janak kit, another maybe $3000 for incidentals. That's not $25,000 to $35,000, it's like $16,500. Let's call it $20k just for fun. Priced a good '69 440 Charger RT recently? They are $75,000. I don't care what it's worth, I want a Charger Daytona. I don't have $500k-$1mil to buy one. I can build my own. Every car I have I have built for a 1/4 to half the cost of buying one done.

I get what you're saying. This is the only way I can afford to buy into what I want to do. Like I said, a Charger in this condition is probably close to $20k to start, I'm starting at $5500. All I need is the B-body under structure and hardtop roof and that's what I bought. Take the front clip, doors, and quarters off and every '66-'70 B-body is essentially the same.

A rotted out '70 Chevelle SS or Mustang isn't going to be any cheaper in this condition to bring it back.
