Do you EVER miss your hometown? Because I sure as hell do. And my hometown was Winchester, Massachusetts! A very underrated place that holds MOSTLY positive memories from my time living there back in the 2010s (the LAST good decade in human history so far as the 2020s have turned out to be a DISASTER).
After 12 years of living in Winchester (starting in summer 2009), I was unfortunately forced to move out of my old neighborhood in September 2021 due to issues with my old house. Like mice, noisy dogs, broken house stuff and the fact that my landlord has NO LONGER owned the house! HOWEVER, it doesn't excuse the fact that my hometown was actually THE BEST. And Winchester, MA has had some of the following things!
My old house, of course! It is the place where I spent MOST of my life at so far. Miss the days when my Mom had her own bedroom, the attic actually had easy access via stairs (instead of through a ridiculous trapdoor) and my Christmas lights were put up. My family's legacy at that home was actually so popular that the new owners have kept it going, with a Mustang similar to my Dad's parked outside. Sadly, the Christmas lights at my old house are no longer happening ever since 2020 or 2021!
My old neighborhood, in which my old house was located at, DUH. I have fond memories of befriending some of my neighbors, and back in October 2012, seeing MOST people actually decorate their houses for Halloween (this local tradition has unfortunately gone downhill as the years went on)! My house was included, and it was my SECOND year decorating it. I bet that AT LEAST a hundred trick or treaters have stopped by to get treats OR tricks at various houses throughout! Look at the neighborhood near Dairy Barn in Winchester, Massachusetts on Google Maps Street View, SET in October 2012, and ENJOY the decorations (including mine).
Andrea's Pizza, a local pizzeria which is just STEPS AWAY from my old house.
Lynch, my elementary school (was student from September 2009 to June 2011).
McCall, my middle school (was student from September 2011 to June 2014).
Winchester High - My high school (was student from September 2014 to May 2018).
Shannon Beach - A small beach with a playground on Mystic Valley Parkway (near Medford). It was a hot spot for locals to be at during the summer!
Winchester Indoor Tennis - Tennis courts located on Garfield Avenue near Woburn.
Mullen Field - Home to a BIG sledding hill, in which children use to sled down during the wintertime.
Middlesex Fells Reservation - This HUGE forest features a series of hiking trails, and it is in other towns too, like Stoneham.
The Winchester Public Library - Where I remember renting books, DVDs, etc.
The Gingerbread Construction Company - I call this place "The Gingerbread House" and it's home to some DELICIOUS goodies.
Borggaard Beach - A small beach located on Palmer Street, with an ABANDONED splash park.
Winter Pond - Where my brother went fishing YEARS AGO.
Mahoney's - A garden center that is more well known for Christmas decorations and trees at a certain time of year. I absolutely miss going there and GETTING new decor!
I wish that someone can help me move back to Winchester, because I miss that town so much! The housing market can kiss my ass!!! :(
