Thank you for this information! I'm currently located in Houston Texas and planning to move up to Wyoming. I had never even heard of radon testing before!

Radon testing is definitely more common where there are basements.

It's especially important in areas with a lot of granite. I work in NH and we spend a decent amount of time educating people about radon testing.

My radon test was right at 4.... My realtor tried to tell me it was because it had just rained blah blah and was literally trying to convince me it wasn't a bit g deal..... All I said was.....well....that's nice. Let me know when the system is installed. Thanks!

It isn't common at all in CA where I live. I bought radon meters and ran them through a whole year cycle to confirm that it was low. It averaged around 0.9 which is pretty much what you could get with an extractor so we didn't put one in.

Where I live in KY, the state sends mailings to all properties, reminding people to do radon tests every year.

I live in Jackson, WY. Just recently ordered radon testing kits for free from the govt - hopefully the results are good! My partners parents built our house 20 years ago and presumably checked then, but doesn’t hurt to double check.

I'm in Colorado and it's common. We got a professional test, but also bought a couple Airthings air quality sensors that detect many things including radon, one for upstairs and one for the basement. It's nice knowing what levels are at, and they do fluctuate quite a bit.

We had a radon test done in ID because the house we were buying had a basement, ended up having to install a radon system because it was at something around 8 pCi

It's very very common in states where there was a lot of mining done. In Colorado is definitely one of those. What's weird is it can vary wildly from house to house on the same street.

Colorado, too. In fact, just do this if you live anywhere they used to mine a lot.

We didn’t in Yorkshire in the United Kingdom, but I recall a friend being concerned further south and pulled out of a house purchase as a result. I hadn’t heard about it before she talked about it maybe ten years ago.

It’s not required in Idaho, but should be. My daughter in Kansas didn’t know. I asked her to test for it. It came up higher than normal (idk her #). She opted to minimize time in the basement and hasn’t done the mitigation.

Michigan and North Carolina (coast) its not common but in Maryland it is. My parents have never heard of it and they live in Michigan. We moved to Maryland and had our house tested for it.

I don't know what it even is. In South Africa they don't even test for mold...let's start there ... insulation is also not a requirement...madness

French here, I can't recall having radon test. But if you have a granite house, except radon, so the ventilation system has to be good.

Everywhere I've lived, the health departments have given out free radon tests. I love that they offer this service. Who knows how many lives they've potentially saved this way by offering something most people might not have ever thought to get tested?

My best friend's brother bought a house that had a basement with a 15 on the radon test. He "aired it out" and then told his soon-to-be ex wife he was going to have one of their little boys a bedroom down there.

It’s common where we live but we chose not to have it done because the previous owners had their original report which was negative from 2004. So, at our ages when we bought the home, combined with the negative testing report from 20 years ago, we didn’t think it would be worth the testing costs.

Yup, sorry i think it’s a money making scam bull shit. Had to have one put in my house when we sold it. Said it was over nine hundred and magic went down to 9 in a few days. Lived in it like that for 21years.
