I don’t normally comment on KZitem videos but felt compelled to post on this one being a 6ft8 28 year old myself! It took me years to feel comfortable with my own height and to see it as a positive thing rather than something to be embarrassed about (not like it’s something I can even control 😂) this is something I felt until my early 20’s and actually contributed to me suffering anxiety, which I actually use running to help keep under control nowadays! Jon you’re a legend mate, I’m also aiming to run a sub 25 PB and I’m going to use this video as inspiration to try and achieve it this weekend! I’m going to always tell myself to walk tall from now one too!

Very best wishes, hope you smash your pb, I am only 6ft 3” myself but in my day that was enormous! I suffered with comments too and low esteem etc, so hope you get there. Walk tall and don’t forget to duck! 😅

I definetly understand the anxiety problem. Many very tall people have it, especially if they were freakishly tall as a teenager. The rude comments and stares were the problem for me. Sports and working towards a passion helps increase self esteem and confidence in general. So, keep it up!

Thank you, Harry, for sharing this fantastic video! It was an honour to be there with my birthday balloon! Those last couple of seconds when we did the big jump actually made me quite emotional, as it summed up how amazing the JOG ON community is. As someone who is also 6' 8" at 23, and played college volleyball instead of running, I have never heard someone explain my life in a video online as accurately as John did. It truly is the first thing everyone says to you and there are times it can be overwhelming and annoying, and times it can be a huge blessing. I hope John enjoys his journey immensely and enjoys running with his community!

At 6’10 I found this video extremely relatable. I struggle with confidence about my height. That constant badgering from others with the “how tall are you” questions is tiresome at times. Just terrific - congrats on the PB Jon! I'm 6ft6, and this was so relatable it was uncanny. I started running this year to lose weight and deal with stress, and had been under 25 mins just once. I recently messed around with a few 10ks, and then today, out of nowhere, ran a 5k in 23:15. I also wonder how to use my height and make the most of my stride length, so it was great to hear your perspective. Best of luck in hunting down sub 25, sometimes it just happens when you least expect it!

Ah makes me seem "short" at 6'5" but a lot of parallels I see there like ducking for branches and doors. My best distances have always really been 800/1500. Bit of a myth that long legs help over long distances as bigger frames need more effort to keep going and things like our shoes (if they even do our size - often don't in a UK 13 that I am) are that much bulkier. However we are easy to spot on a start line and I can usually peer over fences and get things down from top shelves :)
@korganrocks3995

Long legs help as long as they're attached to a normal-sized frame. Also very useful in football, since you can often get a toe to the ball from further away than your opponent was expecting given your height!

I run the Wicksteed Park (Kettering) course and have just completed my second ParkRun, Week One I was at 34.33 (6.54 min/km), Week Two I managed to shave 3 minutes off and now sit at 31:34 (6.23 min/km). Obviously not record breaking times but I am happy with where I am at for now and, over time I am sure these will come down even further. I've always been very physically active but as someone 6'8" and 15-16 stone (under 14 now though) always considered myself too big and heavy to run. Came in very handy for rowing and volleyball though. I started watching Mark Lewis on here a couple of years ago who is a similar height and weight to me and he does ultramarathons, I figured if he could manage those then I could do 5k. I followed his advice of reading Born To Run, changing to mid-strike and getting some zero drop, minimalist trainers. And I'm absolutely loving it. I got my Parkrun from 28:40 to 24:50 although haven't done one for months so I suspect I'll be knocking at least a minute off for the next one. Have targeted a 50k trail run in December so just been doing long Zone 2 runs for months now.

I was doing a 10k and almost made sub 25 in the first 5k, missed it by 3 seconds. I'm still fuming 😂. Well done Jon. 👏

Harry, you are such a great inspiration to me and my running! You should definitely try out Horsham Parkrun, it’s a mix of tarmac, trail and grass and it’s great fun! ❤
