IC-7100 is a super little a shack in the box. I use it for 8/6/5/4M bands and works a treat..

There are currently very very few mobile/portable 'All in ones' The 7100 is just too attractive especially with also having 70Mhz available, but all I read is people having output problems. The IC-705 but then you'll need a small amp for HF and possible again for 2m/70cm. The 991A, but again there are lots of people reporting problems. One of the manufacturer's really needs to get a 100w shack in the box radio redone for 2023.

Yes, we need something from yaesu a successor to 857 and also the 817 both with waterfall and colour preferably

Plenty of used gear about but I know how much you like the 7100 so maybe make do with what you have and that it won't be too long getting repaired. 73 Chris M0RSF

Thanks Chris hopefully it will get repaired, but I might be swayed towards an 857 if not. Or even a 7000

You have the VFO on FST press the middle button on the mic Chris

The IC-7100 is IMHO the best mobile radio out there. Intuitive to use too. Got everything. I hope there will be a successors which would be similar so the IC-705 however, I guess it’s debatable wether a waterfall colour display is all that useful while being actually mobile. Until then, IC-7100 remains a winner. 73 de Kevin, VK4KK

Yes, thank you for the comment. It would be a clear winner if there was a colour successor, surely they must have something in the works

It looks great but I think I'd prefer the 7100 myself but can't afford one yet.

FT891 and FTM400 would be my vote on a good mobile setup. Just a shame on 4m being missed from the equation.

Great suggestion, but it would be nice to have sideband on 2m But in reality, does anybody actually use it much?

I love mine but the menus are oddly complex for a mobile.

Not a lot of choices for a new mobile shack in the box, that's why I am keeping my FT857D. Same size as the 891 and I think easier to use. The only other choice is the FT991A which they do make a bracket to mount mobile but it's big compared to the others.

Yes, considering another one I must’ve had about six of those in the total over the years

I have one but use the 891 more because it's got a much nicer screen. I just don't understand why there wasn't a true successor to the 857! And not the 817/8 qrp shack in a box gone too

@@JohnR_ytbe yes jon what a good comment. There has been no similar size radio which is a successor to the 857 crazy

If there is a way to mount nicely I prefer to have 2/70 in a separate radio to monitor local repeaters. I liked the 7100 when I played with it but for me the 891 is easier mobile and portable. Totally agree about the menus though and why on earth no voltage display other than when turning on!

Personally I love the FT-891. I have 2 of them! One is my shack radio and the other is my mobile hf radio, as well as for Campervan portable… I used to have it for SOTA but now have the Xiegu. I don’t have it with me to check right now, but I’d say @tim G5TM would tell you how to tune in 1KHz.😊 Also there is an oem dash mount too.

Big difference over here though is that it’s not worth having 4m.. too little activity. I then have my trusty Anytone mobile radio for 2m/70cm and repeaters.

Thanks for the info someone told me it is on the microphone. The fast button that is on the radio as well. I have tried it on the radio. It’s a super radio, but I am just discussing honestly my thoughts. Everyone has a different use case. I think it’s awesome to have it set up in your campervan. Loads of space

@@digitalanaloguehamradio yep totally.. we all have our own way of operating…. I actually don’t think I’m getting the best possible experience from my Xiegu X6100 and I know you know a good bit about it, so ill hit you up directly you for some advice on that one. 👌🏻
