Very happy as well. My guess is it's technique, plus hair moisture. the pre-stretch and not letting her hair shrink might have been key plus pre moisturized strands- always helps to start on happy strands.

What are people having an issue with? What is so difficult? I am sorry I am 4c and have been doing this over a decade. However i am from the time in the early 2000's and this was COMMONLY done and has always been very easy to accomplish so i don't get what is difficult to do. Is it having high definition of curls or what?

@@marlak4203 Actually, 4cs generally find this easier. Star puppy has just been having a hard time achieving this personally. It's nice to see her succeed for once. Everyone has a different learning curve.

hair length doesn't matter at all for a twist out. im 4c as well. products definitely do! you've got to get moisturized so it doesn't come out frizzy, but also get some hold so you can have definition.

she's right. you need a juicy leave in. and a defining FOAM. this is the best combo for twisting out tight, undefined hair. and you want to do it on WET hair. soakkk your hair in the foam. stretch it after you're done with the banding method and go to sleep.

I've been wanting to see a reattempt forever! I hope you do a 3-strand twist out in whatever wet/dry state that you do your braid out. 3 strands keep the hair stretched similar to a braid our (not quite as much) for way more definition than 2-strand twists.

Hey Danielle, I’m so glad you retried a twist out it’s my main protective style. I can’t do a cute braid but I can do a twist and it’s worked fine for helping me grow inches. I have 4a…ish hair but I sometimes style my sister’s 4c one so this is extra informative for me who realizes I can’t treat her hair like mine. I’ve been doing twists for a while so it’s not a stretch to say I’ve stretched my hair out so it’s easier for me. Maybe this will give me the courage to try cornrows (and fail) again. That devil (looks at follicles) still eludes me. Edit: I forgot the piece of advise I wanted to give. For me I actually can just use an oil and pomade to style my twists and it leaves my hair mega soft and bouncy for a few days before I take it out.
@marlak4203

"I’ve been doing twists for a while so it’s not a stretch to say I’ve stretched my hair out so it’s easier for me" And that is what so many of the new naturals have failed to do which is to really LEARN their hair. To experiment in various styles. So many of the hair info our deals with synthetic hair that is virtually 100% of the time straight. Don't even know how to deal with kinky weave so they aren't used to feeling it all the time to actually "deal' with it. The current natural hair trend really doesn't promote like it did in the earlier years which was to accept and deal with your natural hair alone and style it. Learn how to style, grow and maintain your hair.
@shanika4160
2 жыл бұрын
@@marlak4203 I see your point but for me I’ve found this works best for my personality, I’m always sort of shocked when I see my own follicles extremely defined because my hair isn’t naturally like that and for me it’s easier to use one protective style for convenience than consistently style my natural hair as is. It’s easier for my to sleep and get up and go.
@marlak4203
2 жыл бұрын
@@shanika4160 of course. You shouldn't be doing various styles all the time. I used to change up every week which is why my hair wasn't growing much. So i have kept it steady(thanks to the pandemic) and my hair is flowing and growing so very well. I will be about waist length by spring or so. I just have to stay on the ball of moisturizing my hair. Oo can't wait. But yes consisten styles and maybe change once a month or so helps. In the earlier years women used to do challenges to their natural hair which was wear it in one style for a whole season. So for winter they'd wear buns, twists, weaves, updo's, wigs, scarves/hats on their head and keep it protected during the entire winter and then in the spring take their hair down to see how much length they have retained. But that was popular before KZitem and the sponsors came along.

To perfect or master a style takes practice, of course. HOWEVER, a lot of videos fail to address how important prep it, and I don't mean the products used. The products are less important than the techniques. Was hair washed and conditioned properly? (all the product washed out at each step. Shampooing and conditioning are more important than people realize). Was it detangled well? (was the ratio of conditioner and water enough to smoothly glide through strands?) HOW was the styling product applied? (glommed on, or emulsified first?) Was it distributed evenly, all the way down to the ends? Was ENOUGH styling product used? Was a styling product used in the first place? (e.g. oil is not not a styling product, it doesn't have hold) Was the hair allowed to completely dry before taking down the twists? (this helps prevent frizzing). These are the questions we need to ask ourselves when assessing the success or failure of a hairstyle. When those questions are addressed, then consistency can begin to come through, and consistent results as well. Also, can we PLEASE stop placing so much emphasis on 4a/b/c/d/e/f/etc.? The way our hair zigs, zags or coils is NOT determinate of styles that can or can't be done. It's NOT determinate of the types of products that "can or can't" be used. If my hair zigs and yours zags, why would we not be able to use the same type of gel? More important factors are things like hair density (how much of your scalp is visible from freshly washed, no product hair) and hair texture (fine, medium, or thick (THICK DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE A LOT OF HAIR, IT MEANS YOUR INDIVIDUAL STRANDS HAVE MORE LAYERS AND ARE...THICKER.)). How much water your hair can hold will also influence the way styles come out, and how long they can last before you have to redo them. Danielle, I'm glad you got your twist out this time. I encourage you, and anyone else who read to the end of this, to please, PLEASE, check out www.blackcurlmagic.com and sign up for access to their digital library. Yes, it costs money. I did the course in August this year, and I paid in Canadian dollars (the exchange rate it terrible). The knowledge from these two women will change the way you think about your own hair. The 30 day detox thing goes beyond 30 days in terms of how we view our hair, style and maintain it. They simplify it. They make it user friendly. Most importantly I'd say, is they take the guesswork out of our hair. They have examples of doing the same styles on different people, with NO mention and a/b/c, because it's not important. If I had the money, I'd pay for anyone who wants to take the course. Sure, I was p*off about paying at first, but I have that knowledge now, and I'm grateful. KZitem is a free source, sure. But KZitem is full of a lot of opinions, not facts. It's full of trial and error, and spending lotsa money on different hair brands, and improper execution of techniques because it "works for me". If the definition of what "works" isn't consistent, what's the point?
