This is very much what my first breathwork experience was like. I went in open to trying the practice but was not prepared for the immense impact and emotional release I experienced. That initial session was definitely like trying a drug for the first time-- I've done breathwork a few times after that but none have been as impactful as that first high. I got the "crab hands" that Matt experienced (which our guide had cautioned us about before we started the practice). I had cold sweats, I cried, I laughed and my limbs shook and contorted in ways I wasn't able to control. The whole experience is similar to what I imagine an ayahuasca ceremony to be like. After the practice ended, I was in an incredibly lifted/ euphoric state. It was surreal. If you have the opportunity to experience a guided breathwork class, I highly recommend it. If nothing else, it makes for an interesting afternoon and story to tell.

I was a skeptic for years. I put everything you talked about under the same umbrella. Until I started breath work and meditation. It opened up a lot of doors to me. Someone who was never spiritual before, it was hard to discount the effects. Especially from someone who used to have intense dreams on a regular basis and resorted to substances to subdue them. Meditating and breath work almost immediately allowed me to control my dreams and emotions. If it works, it works.

The claw stuff that Matt is describing here was so intense... I felt a lot of pain and I cried a lot. Even so, I went another time, and another time, because I felt the long term effect. The second time was one of the best experience ever: I had a breakthrough, cathartic laughing: I was laughing for three hours, I had intercostal muscular fever after that. :) The feeling it was that I understand the cosmic joke... and forgot it. :) It is an amazing experience to have and a deep healing one.

Whenever you're passionate about anything outside of survival, you're spiritual, it really isn't that complex or "meta". And you don't have to learn it through any religion or holy text, it's always inside you and everything else. Religion has taken monopoly on the word "spiritual" and stirred it together with 5000 years of bullshit, it really is quite a neutral and peaceful word. Of course all words are fundamentally meaningless, but that's another topic lol
@JaySingh-cu8cs

could you please explain this more
@daesong1378
4 жыл бұрын
@@JaySingh-cu8cs Spiritual is just referring to anything "of the spiritual world" in other words the non physical, non corporeal world. Jewish word elohim refers to spiritual beings. This includes demons, ghosts, angels, god, gods, djinn, yokai, kami, etc, etc. It's not really complicated in its classical sense. It's modernism and new age beliefs that turned "spiritual" into something else. Also contrary to vikings statement, in abrahamic religions, man is both a spiritual existence as well as a fleshly one, meaning that yes, by the classical definition, you are innately "spiritual" this is why there have been many religious practitioners in the past that seeked to "deny the flesh."

Breathwork is the most powerful, free and easy way to create well-being that I know. As a result, I avoid doing it as much as possible. I'm now down to about 1 minute a day - the most joy I can let in at the moment. I've come to the conclusion that some part of me is not OK feeling joyful and happy because it's a huge identity shift and then "I don't know who I am, why I am or who I will become or what comes next." It's worth noting that most people stay chronically miserable or just comfortable in mediocre lives rather than go through this uncertainty. I love how easy breathwork is - because it highlights that the real challenge is not knowing what works or how to be happier, but navigating the fear of the unknown that every ego feels when they face fundamental change of self-definition.

For three reasons it will not be the same at home: 1) being in nature alone without distractions is meditational and healing 2) doing any activities in a group is always more effective. Thats why muslims are recommended to do praying in groups than alone. 3) anything first time experience is always novel and spontaneous. You have no experience and your mind is open. When you try to force yourself to repeat the experience and you have some expectations as how it should go then you have already closed your mind.

I'm actually so damn happy to see that you did breathwork. I'm like your sister -- 'very spiritual' -- but it's often difficult for people to be open and curious about spirituality/breathwork/etc. if they don't understand it. So I just wanna say that it's incredible seeing people like you, who might be pessimistic at first, be respectful & willing to try something they might not initially understand. Thank you for this!

TLDR: hyperventilation -> temporarily low calcium level in blood -> inability of muscles to relax -> spasms As a doctor, the cause for the tetany (carpopedal spasm in this instance) is quite simple. Hyperventilation of any cause leads to your serum ionised calcium binding with proteins and giving you a transient low-calcium state. Without calcium your muscles have difficulty relaxing and you get the spasms you showed us in the video. Hope this helps!

Is it any dangerous? Also, I saw the Yes Theory documentary about Wim Hof and Matt actually had some sort of seizure/attack while doing the breahing, do you know what happened and why this happened?
@Saadabd912

@@jesser110 Shouldn't be dangerous BUT you can pass out so definitely do not do it in water or any other place where passing out could hurt you! And sorry, haven't seen that video you're referring to.

@@Saadabd912 thanks for your response! I am well aware of the passing out or starting to hyperventilate uncontrollably. what I am referring to, and this is the link (with timestamp so it starts at the right part), is this seizure like event that occurred: kzitem.info/news/bejne/mZmszqunroKifWU He's not passing out, nor hyperventilating I think. take a look at what is happening to him, and what Wim does to him to calm him down. Any idea's?

@@jesser110 My apologies, I've just come off a super long shift and am totally a zombie! Just saw that video. I wonder if the guy suffers from some sort of seizures? I know absence seizures are almost always triggered in sufferers by hyperventilation but dunno what's happening here, sorry. I suspect he would have gotten better on his own though, I doubt Wim calming him down did that.

Awesome video, reminds me of an experiment i once did when i was in my early 20s. I tried to hold my breath as long as possible for 3-4 times a night every day for months. I went from about 60 seconds to being able to hold my breath for almost 3 minutes.

As it was mentioned, you are basically hyperventilating. That can lead to tetanic spasms. Those can hurt very bad. Most common cause is lack of Mg and Ca in your body (definitely not anything relating to emotions). Now, you can have relatively safe levels of these minerals, but if you have hypovitaminosis D, these minerals won't be digested properly. I don't recommend practising breathwork, if you know you have depletion of these particular nutrients. I've experienced tetanic spasms and I can tell you, they feel really bad, they hurt like crap and it's damaging your body. So please, whoever reads this, consider whether or not this will be beneficial for you.

Lesson learnt: We are all social animals, and when you feel that everyone around you is relaxed and is as unprotected as you are, you also relax and let your tension out, during this time you really start appreciating and being grateful for lots of things you know and care about but you can't think a lot in that emotional way, because the majority of your brainpower goes into the "protection and survival" part. Simple right? The main reason why people who live with loved ones and spends prolonged amounts of time with them, live longer.

One thing I learned from breathwork your mind will try to avoid it. You gotta push through it. Do not let the mind control you. I got told by my spiritual guidance because it’s really going to be hard for anyone but gotta push. Also don’t expect anything just let it be. Learned from experience it’s tough but push through! We are alot stronger and we can do it!

If you breathe deep and fast (hyperventilate), which you seemed to be doing as you were imposing a certain rhythm to your breathing, you eliminate more CO2 from your blood-stream through your lungs (basically "accelerating" the physiological process of breathing) you cause an ever so slightly shift in your blood pH. This state is called respiratory alkalosis. While in this state Calcium tends to enter the cells ergo the symptoms of hypocalcemia ( involuntary contractions, numbness, "cold" fingers )

Needless to say, She’s taught me to be open minded!!! It’s amazing what you can learn once you break down those barriers. Thanks for the informative video

I know everyone has their own beliefs, but I find doing tarot helps me get in tune with my intuition/true thoughts feelings and anxieties.

I use 8D music for this grounding effect, as focusing on my breath makes me more uncomfortable, 8D /audiophile music makes anxiety and panic attacks disappear. The only caveat is that you need a decent pair of headphones for it to work properly.

Tetany = involuntary contraction of muscles, caused by increase in the cellular action potential of muscle cells or the nerves that innervate them; Related to the breath work induced transient decrease in Carbon-DIoxide (not MONoxide).
