I'm a bit confused since my common sense suddenly stopped working. If the boat was completely submerged, doesn't it displace a larger volume of water than if it was just immersed? Why would the buoyancy force be greater for the immersed boat?

The boat has walls, so it is mostly empty space, and water will flow into all that empty space, unless it is on top of the water.

for the last question, why did you add 1.5g..?

The weight is mg, so 1.5 kg x 9.8 N/kg = about 15N

Not sure, but I think there is an error in the last question. since 5/1000 is equal to 0.005, not 0.0005. Making the answer 400 kg/m^3, not 4000 kg/m^3
