Love this song I sing it to my daughter everynight at bedtime...she says daddy sing me a song...What song do you want me to sing?...Sing a boat...I have made up quite a few alternate verses...If I were your daddy I would bring you roses, cut off all the thorns to be sure that you won't bleed, I'd give you what you wanted and everything you needed, I'd get you a pony you could ride out in the sea...and if I had a boat

In the 1050's in the States there was a TV western called the Lone Ranger a bout a masked vigilante who always fought for the under dog. His only companion were his horse Silver and his Indian friend named Tonto. Tonto always called the Lone Ranger "Kemosabe" which I think was supposed to mean "friend". The Lone Ranger would always send Tonto into town and Tonto would always get beaten up. Glad you liked the song. One of my favourite too.

Dude, that's really freakin' cool. Your daughter will remember the times you've sang to her forever and odds are, she'll end up singing to her children as well. Pretty nice tradition you started, dad.

So often we hear a song that fits a certain feeling of a certain day. This song is a song of my times- my place in my world. Who hasn't wanted to tell Kemosabe to kiss off and leave it all behind? And who can live up to sqeaky clean Roy. Not you. Not me. So a song of the human condition.

You are a great father you're giving your daughter those special moments, I realize now that I am in high school just how special those moments with your parents can be. I wish that I could go back to a simpler time and relive those moments with my father and mother. Just one more time, what I wouldn't give for it. To relive the past, but life must be lived forward but it is understood backward.

It just doesn't get any better than this. One of the best performers/lyricists alive, with two others on stage alongside him. A consummate professional, who always makes you feel as though he's describing your life and your personal yearnings. And in this song, especially, he is. You impressed me so very much when I saw you on stage at the Fox Theater in Oakland with my girlfriend Alex, who introduced me to you, for which I am everlastingly grateful. Thank you for the gift of this video tonight--I have always loved you, and always will. With true gratitude and admiration, Namaste, and Happy New Year, Pam. May your New Year hold only blessings and joy.

when I heard this the first time was the first time I ever heard of Lyle Lovett. I wasn't impressed after Townes Van Zandt and John Vandiver. I didn't think too much of this Fosdick hair and this son was insane. My husband at the time and a good friend thought he was awesome. I then told myself I really must have missed it. I really don't know good musicians at all.

I grew up listening to all sorts of influences, top 40 in the 1960-70s, Hank Williams Sr, Johnny Cash as well as the Stones, Beatles, Kingston Trio, Santana, blah .blah etc. This kind of song writing and performing is the GREATEST stuff recorded. Emphasis on "perfection" has ruined music performances and content in modern times. Listening audiences (cu$tomer$) are now programmed to believe that over produced/manipulated voice tracks are the norm and therefore the benchmark for success, so sad.

It's a wonderful song and all credit to Mr.Lovett for writing it but honestly Karen Elson's version is far superior to this... she imbues the song with a great depth of feeling and it just sounds and feels better.
